I have Solar panels on home so going with the electric Raypak 8450 ti-e as recommended by Raypak

Pool builder used Jandy materials so now I’m looking to purchase the following and wanted advice for those that have the same:

  • Jandy TruClear 11k (what is the real difference between this and 11kU
  • Jandy iAqualink RS Complete Control System Bundle iQ904-PS
Thanks in advance.

Newbie,

You are looking at some old Jandy documentation. The IQ904-PS included the old 900 MHz iAqualink system that was replaced by the iAqualink 2.0 system, and just recently that was replaced by the iAqualink 3.0 system. Here's their current selection brochure.

I don't really see a bundled part number that's equivalent to the IQ904-PS, the brochure just shows you the various bits that make up a system.

The Jandy indoor controls are expensive and quite dated. With the iAqualink network enabled system you really don't need a separate indoor control panel as you can control everything via their smartphone or tablet app. The Web interface is easier to use also.

Edit: oops, I did find the IQ904-PS bundle on TC Pool Equipment's site and it says the it includes the iAqualink 2.0 antenna unit so that is usable, the iAqualink 3.0 antenna was upgraded for better compatibility some of the newer mesh network WiFi routers.

Hi Mark, the tech support rep at Fluidra / for Jandy recommended the bundle and said the iQ904PS is an automation bundle that starts me from scratch with the essentials for automation but can be as basic as I want with the iAquaLink. Are you saying there’s another bundle with the iAqualink 3.0 antenna?

What pump do you have?

What do you have that requires Jandy automation?

Jandy does not sell over the internet or to consumers. Builders use them because they support their channel. You will have little support or warranty over Jandy equipment you buy directly.

If you must use Jandy, get the Aquapure. Lots of issues with the TruClear.

Hi again I called TC pool equipment and said I wanted the Jandy AquaPure PLC 1400 cell kit, but he said the power center is sold separately that’s he Apurem and then I can add the automation bundle. Does that sound right to you? I would be purchasing 3 things a La carte in the end. Thanks

Yup, Jandy doesn’t do many bundles. Pool Builders buy the components they need.

When I get home I will take photos but it’s Jandy equipment the pool builder installed. I found prices from TC Pool Equipment, so you’re saying Jandy won’t honor the warranty if I purchase from a pool retailer and have it installed separately from the builder?

well ok this makes me think otherwise about saving some money and then it not working in a year and I’m stuck, thanks

I am surprised you got a single speed pump instead of a VS pump. That pump will cost you $100-$200/month more in electrical cost then a VS pump.

Get the 40K Aquapure system. It will save you money with that pump needing less pump runtime.

Any idea how much more the VS pump costs? Is that an easy fix if I had someone else do it or should I ask the pool builder? I know nothing at all and just learning. Thanks again

Ask your Pool Builder first. As discussed above you want to maintain the Jandy warranty.

Also which VS pump would be better than the size I have now based on the pool size?

Pool size really doesn’t matter.

You have a 1.6 HP single speed pump now. Jandy has 1.85 & 2.7 HP VS pumps. Either will work fine for you. The 2.7 HP pumps will cost a bit more but be more electrically efficient and better value in the long term.

Jandy systems are sold by first buying the power center you want, with or without sub-panel. They usually come with 4 relays. Then, you complete the system with the RS4, 6, or 8 of your choice. Get the 8. It will include 4 more relays and allows for more options in the future. You will want the iAqualink. I haven't noticed a great deal of difference between the 2.0 and 3.0. Its virtually impossible to get an indoor Jandy control anymore and the ones that are available are outrageously expensive. Plus, you would have to run a 4-conductor cable into the home.

I only want the Wi-Fi capability from my phone but don’t have a spa nor water features but I imagine in the future when I add some lighting on the side of the pool that would help. By the way, would it be possible to get the Pentair IntelliConnect system bundle with SWG too even with a Jandy filter single pump and a Raypak electric heater?

Yes, that combo will work fine.
