Heat pump on/off

Hi, I recently installed a heat pump for my above ground pool. The main pump is on a simple plug in timer. The heat pump is hard wired and does not have a timer. Is it ok to leave the heat pump on and let it automatically stop when the water pressure reduces anytime the main pump turns off?

any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to TFP.

Relying on the Water Pressure Switch (WPS) to turn your HP on and off will work until the WPS fails. If it fails closed it will try to run your HP with no water flow and you hope other safeties prevent damage.

It will work until it doesn’t. Putting the HP on a timer to run only when the pump runs will be safer.
