hayward xstream 150 filter; trouble with "easy lok" thread binding up

Was troubleshooting filter pressure this week and have had continuously more difficulty opening and closing of easy-lok assembly. Have cleaned thread areas with detergent, water , brush. But now it's kind of seized up part way to locking position. Had to hammer it off with rubber mallet on handle - neither I nor my strong son-in-law could budge it manually - counterclockwise
