I have a Hayward TCELL 940 which appears to have stopped working. Showing 0 salt when last week it was 3000. If I am reading the serial #correctly I should still have a month left on the 4 year warranty. 4E19184. My first cell lasted 12 years so this is a big disappointment. I am unable to locate a receipt but I know it wasn't from an authorized reseller. Is there any recourse here to get this covered under warranty? I can't believe the cells are now $900. I think I paid $400 maybe for this one.

Welcome to TFP.

Bring your cell into a Pool Store that has a Hayward cell tester. If your cell tests bad and is under warranty they should give you a replacement cell.

Cell Diagnostics.

Pressing the diagnostic button sequentially will display:

  • Default salt display
  • Pool temp
  • Cell Voltage - When not generating, the voltage is about 30 to 32 volts dc. When generating, the voltage drops about 1 volt per amp of current.
  • Cell current
  • Desired output (% of the knob)
  • Instant salinity
  • Product name
  • Software revision (r.XX)
  • Cell type
The Hayward Aquarite Troubleshooting Guidelines explains each reading.

  • Instant salt = the cells reading of the current salt PPM
  • Average Salt = the average salt reading of the last 3 cycles of the cell.
To estimate the performance of the Aquarite cell, divide the instant salinity reading by the actual salinity. If the performance is less than 75%, the cell is failing and it's time to consider replacing the cell. You need to be sure about the actual salinity by using a salt test like the Taylor K-1766.

Check the instant salinity reading and then cycle power to reverse polarity and recheck the instant salinity reading. The numbers should be about the same +/- 200 ppm.

Thank you. I will give that a try. There is a Leslie's Pool about 10 miles away from me that tests. I didn't buy it there, but hopefully they can help
They don’t care where you bought it.

FYI... Hayward salt cells are covered under warranty for 3 years, not 4, and it's parts only.

There are 4 year warranty cells in the wild.

The cell serial number indicates the warranty length.

Hayward finally got back to me. After "registering" the product and filing a "claim". I received an email which told me to go to a service center and they will determine how it is handled. Told me to make sure I had proof of purchase. And the nearest authorized service center is an hour away. They certainly aren't going to make any part of this easy.
