Hi all!

I'm hoping someone can recommend to me a nice replacement pump for my pool. My pool is a ~75000 litre vinyl pool. I have 3 return jets (1 in the deep in, 1 in the shallow end, and 1 at the stairs), 1 "Main Drain" in the deep end that acts as a return jet, and 1 skimmer. I also have 1 "Auto Cleaner" line, but that is not used. I do not have any water features.

I currently have a "US Motors" EUST1102, Model Number C55CXKMB-5012 1 HP, 3450 RPM 230 Volt pump that I want to replace with a Hayward variable speed pump. I'm sticking with Hayward, as I have a Hayward T-CELL-15 that I just replaced this year, and I figure at some point in time in the future I will go with hayward automation, so it makes sense to go with a Hayward VS pump.

I would love a quiet operational pump, even at full RPM, as right now the pump I have is loud at full! If that means over-investing in a pump, to run at a lower RPM that would be quieter, I am ok with that investment. I also don't mind investing a bit more, if the energy efficiency makes sense. The pool stores initial recommendation is the Hayward MaxFlo, but I'm wondering if there would be a better option out there?

I have a TriStar VS950 variable speed Pump. They make it in different sizes. I run mine at 50% speed half the day and about 25% speed the rest of the day (24/7). At those two speeds you have to be really close, 5' or so to even tell that it's running. I have friends that have pools that come over and when they see/hear it they start asking questions because it's so quiet. At 50% it only uses about 260 watts of power...so it's very efficient to run.

I have no complaints

I have the VS900 Omni which is 1.85 HP and find that 50% is sufficient (when the DE is fresh) for normal operation on a 19k gal with 4 returns (2 deep, 2 shallow), 2 skimmers, and main drain. I ramp it up to 70% for the gas heater and about 75% when I switch the deep end returns off and turn on the 4' sheer descent waterfall. When the DE gets close to back-flush time, those go up. If I had this to do again I would have gotten the 950 for a bit more "oomph" but it's not anything I'm really kicking myself for.

Also, the Omni version just means it comes with an Omni Hub... it isn't actually built into the pump itself. If you go this route (which can save money depending on what deals are currently being offered) then you will want to purchase the add-on daughter board for the Omni so it can talk to your AquaRite.

This is great advice and possibly a good way to ease into automation if you are considering it.

Thanks everyone for your feedback!

That pump seems like what I'm looking for in terms of how I would like to run. Very efficient!

The Tri star VS is 2.7 HP and a much better option... TriStar VS | Pumps | In Ground Pool Pumps - Hayward Pool Products
Thanks for the link! I'll send this over to the pool store to ensure they update the quote with this model!

Hey all,

Thanks again for all the feedback. Just as a follow-up, I ended up getting the Hayward VS 900 (1.85 HP). I pushed for the 950 (2.7 HP), but my installer insisted that because I only have 1-1/2" supply lines, that the 950 would be too water starved to operate properly. He said, even the 900 will be starved, but it will work, against my better judgement, I ended up trusting the installer, hopefully I wont regret it!

It should work perfectly for you. I have three 2" suction lines all the way to the pad and five 1.5 return lines all the way to the pad...so my 2.7hp pump can run full bore and everything is fine. That being said the only time mine ever runs 100% is when it's priming and when I am doing a backwash/rinse. 1,725 rpm during daylight hours and 863 rpm overnight.

You will love it and it will save you a chunk on your electric bill.
