Hayward SwimPure Plus - loud clang when it turns on

My SG makes a very loud metallic clang when it turns on. Is that normal? Sounds like someone slamming a very heavy metal door and it sort of "jumps" in the wall box. One day, it rattled the display module loose, which I reseated. It works fine otherwise. I don't recall hearing it previously but I recently had a new pump installed and it is less noisy than the old one, which may have been masking the startup noise from the SG.

No, it is not normal.

I would take a close look at the transformer in the box and watch it when the SWG turns on.

I hear a little ping on mine when it turns on but nothing a violent as what you are experiencing. Can you post a video with audio?

The transformer is made of many sheets of steel and I think that they might be loose and they constrict when the magnetic field is applied.

Basically, the magnetic field is causing the sheets to suddenly slam together causing the bang.

Maybe try tightening the 4 screws that hold the laminated plates together.

I think this may be it, in part. I took off the metal panel cover and the noise was only a ping, as expected. Tried again with the cover on and it's banging against the metal cover. I can't reach the two screws in the back without taking the inside entirely apart but one of the screws in the front was slightly loose. I tightened it and then placed a couple of washers behind the cover where the mounting screws align. That must have pulled it away enough because now it sounds normal again. Thanks for the help!
