I’ve looked through the forums and haven’t found my answer. I’m not sure if I’m being more sensitive this season than last, but the pump seems louder and has a constant, rhythmic, pulsating noise to it. I pulled the basket and felt in the impeller with nothing abnormal noted. I haven’t seen any bubbles in the suction strainer.

What else should I check? Should I pull the impeller to ensure it is clean visually? Is it possible I’m getting air in even though I don’t see signs of it? Could one of the suction lines be clogged? Should I try bolting down everything more secure? Is it a normal pumping sound and I’m just crazy?

Info:
Hayward SP2610x15
One skimmer, two bottom drains
Suction side has one 3-way valve (skimmer, bottom, both)

FYI the “rattle” noise in the video is coming from the inlet piping at the top of the sand filter, my phone was right next to it while recording. Also you can hear it change as I put some pressure on the discharge piping (trying to see if it is vibration).

Welcome to TFP.

No, that is not a normal pump sound.

When you touch the front end or rear motor while it is running can you feel any vibration?

@JamesW may have ideas.

There is vibration, but does not seem excessive to me. I also can’t seem to shift the pump or put pressure to get it to stop, even momentarily.

Voltage should be correct- nothing has changed since last season. I will double check it tomorrow since I can’t remember if it is wired for 120 or 230 (I inherited the pool with a house purchase at the end of last summer).

Update- definitely 230VAC based on breaker in pool panel. I also moved the pump around a little more aggressively than I had before. I am almost convinced something in the motor is now vibrating more than last season. Looking at my options now for motor or full pump upgrade JIC.
