New owner of an existing pool. Bought as is. 2019 build. I have 2 lights. 1 - 10" colorlogic LPCUS11050, 1 - 2" colorlogic 320 (spa light, not yet removed, tackling one problem at a time). The spa light does not work at all. The LPC gets power, comes on but very dim...not sure if it was ever programmed/installed correctly for the set up. There is a transformer that has 12v out (metered) so I am assuming the light is a 12v but I cant be certain as most of the label is worn/washed off. Light is obviously is filled with water. I would like to replace this lamp via the easiest and lowest cost path. the niche is large for the lamp (eg. 7-9" deep). Cost for a new lamp quoted @ 1100, have seen them lower online ($575). But would like to consider maybe a pentair or lesser chinese bulb based LED. Here for alternative advice, have read many threads here, still a bit confused, open to any and all suggestions. I have modest skills. willing to try most on my own to avoid paying $1500 installed. Help wanted.IMG_0860.jpegIMG_0858.jpegIMG_0857.jpegIMG_0853.jpegIMG_0852.jpegIMG_0861.jpg

Welcome to TFP.

Talk to Florida Sunseekers and see which of their lights will work in your pool.

TY, definitely on my list. I am assuming there is nothing I can do with the existing device if it has taken on water. It is out of the pool today, but does not appear to open to drain out water and dry out the boards. frankly looks like a manufacturing quality issue with all the water that is inside. again was not my circus and not my monkey, until now. appears from docs I have about the build the spa light is a 160, which I don't know whats compatible with that model. is it the same size as the 320? dont know if any of this ever worked.

questioning why this fixture could not just bypass the transformer and direct wired into the house/outside switch? why does a 12v have to be replaced with a 12v? if I have a 120v I would just add a step-down transformer to go to 12v. Why is the opposite not true?

Another choice…

The ColorLogic 320 is a 1.5” nicheless light. An alternative replacement is CMP Brilliant Wonders style H light.

You can replace a 12V light with a 120V light if you rewire back to the light control.

A 12V pool light has an external transformer between the 120V power and the light.

A 120V light has an internal transformer within the light and 120V running into the light fixture.

A 12V light with an external transformer may not have a GFCI CB.

A 120V light MUST have a GFCI CB.

installed pooltone 16 LED in pool. SR Smith in spa. thanks to this forum for the help and courage to tackle by myself. Saved thousands $. lots of lessons learned. passing on lessons.
320 is threadless, but dont assume your 1.5 pipe has no threads, mine was threaded and the SR smith worked great.
Pooltone fits. but is a little small and needs a second screw. I had to drill the frame to match the hayward large niche.
if you need a fish tape. try harbor freight. 100' was $17.99 vs HD $109. I will never need a 100 foot tape again.
Needed tape as the 320 head pulled off old cord on first tug. OG installer left no slack on either end (niche, or junction box). I left 6-8" in junction box so that I can get a little slack on pool end if needed for "next" time.
Removed the 320 using 3 screw drivers (saw this on youtube) it worked. 2 flatheads in the slots, 1 for the lever. worked perfect.
Extra cable can be used for other stuff. Rewired an old extention cord. Moved an outdoor lamp. dont throw it out.
Synching. I only have one switch (relay in hayward controller) for both lights. Pool tone has 16 programs and SR smith has 8. Connect SR smith get to the color you like. disconnect. Connect Pool tone do the same. Connect both. Now after enough on off cycle you will get to a program you like...
What ever you do...DON'T buy hayward lamps. Mine were only 5 yo. both were filled with water. real POS and stupid expensive for such a poor product, and service is awful. just leave a message and maybe they will call. They are operating in the wrong century.
