Hayward heater not responding to Omnilogic Control Panel or Omnilogic phone app after replacing display board

I have a Hayward heater controlled by a Hayward Omnilogic system. I had to replace the display board in the heater due to a CE error. The new board fixed the CE error but I can no longer control the heater from the Omnilogic Control Panel or phone app. I can control the heater manually from the heater display panel so I know the heater is working. Internet says that the system needs to be reset. I have shut off power to all components and powered back up, but problem still persists. Any ideas out there? Thanks.

Welcome to TFP.

Your heater needs to be in bO mode..

A bO code is a normal display on the heater display when the heater is being controlled by automation. It indicates the heater is in remote control mode.

To put your heater in bypass you:

  1. Press the Mode button to place the heater in Standby Mode
  2. Hold the Down Arrow and Mode buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds for Bypass operation. “bO” will be displayed on the screen
  3. Heater must then be in the Spa or Pool Mode for operation. The heater will fire when instructed by the external control.

To remove your heater from bypass mode you:

  1. Press and hold the DOWN key and
  2. Then press and hold the MODE key
  3. Hold down both keys for 3 seconds until the indication ‘‘bO’’ is removed from the display.

Thanks for the suggestion ajw22, I thought this was going to solve it. I put the heater in bypass mode, but am still not able to control the heater from the app or control pad. I don't remember if the heater was normally in bypass mode before the initial problem occurred since I never really looked at the heater display. I always only controlled from the app.

You now need to dig into the heater and find the two wire control wire that connects the heater to the Omnilogic panel. You may have accidentally disconnected the wire when you replaced the display board.

Find the connection at the heater and then follow it to the connection on the Omnilogic.

Post pictures of both connections and we will figure out the next steps.

Also post a pic of the heater display in BO mode.

I think there were only two cable connectors that I unplugged from the old board and then plugged into the new board. I'll go back and make sure the connections are plugged in properly. I should clarify that the new board was not a OEM Hayward board. I got the new board on Amazon. Here is the link:
I reached out to the vendor on Amazon that sold the board and they said the board is compatible with the Omnilogic control system, but couldn't give me any additional technical support other than saying the Omnilogic configuration needed to be reloaded. The board had good reviews, but now I'm not sure the board is compatible with Omnilogic.

We hear lots of problems with clone boards. If it does not work best if you return it to Amazon ASAP while you can and get a genuine Hayward board.

What the vendor says does not matter. Either it works or it does not. And the person you are communicating with is either an importer who knows nothing or someone in China.

As a follow up, I purchased a new display board from Hayward and installed it. I have the exact same results as the clone board. I can turn the heater on and off manually from the panel, but cannot control the heater from either the Omnilogic app or control panel. In researching this issue, I keep seeing something about resetting or reloading the omnilogic configuration. Other than powering everything off and back on, do you know of another way of doing this? Thanks

Replacing boards in the heater should not require reloading the OmniLogic CONFIGURATION.

Confirm the boards you repalced are in the heater and not in the OmniLogic Panel.

I don't see where replacing the display board in the heater effects the OmniLogic configuration.

Let's start with the basics of the connection wire between the heater and the OmniLogic.

Find the wire and show me pictures of where it is connected on both ends.

There are two cables that connect into the display board. One comes from the heater display panel itself, the other comes from the control board in the heater. I'm not sure where the cable from the Omnilogic main panel connects to the heater. Does it connect to the control board or the fuse board in the heater? The pool and equipment was professionally installed about 3 1/2 years ago and the wiring has never been altered or tampered with. Everything has worked fine since day 1, until I got a CE error on the heater display panel. That's when I replaced the display board, which fixed the CE error and let me control the heater manually but not through the Omnilogic app or control pad. I can try to get some pictures if you still think it's the best way to proceed. Thanks.

Find the Remote Control Connection. It is not the display board.

Sorry, I'm not seeing where the Remote Control Connection is located in the heater. I see the display board, control board and fuse board. I looked in the manual but don't see any diagram for it. Do you know where it is? Here is a picture of the Omnilogic hub mounted on the wall. Also, there are three relays on the wall. Do they have anything to do with the heater? Thanks

Is there remote control connection on each side of the heater? I see something called a junction box cover in the diagram on page 61 of the service manual, so I am wondering if this is where the remote control connection is located?

Show me what you are looking at.

What manual did you look at? Link?

Where what is?

The heater control wire connects to a LVR in the Omnihub.
