Just installed the heater and keep getting the IF code. It try’s to light but won’t, I can smell the gas and inlet pressure is at 9. I can see a glow by the igniter, but won’t light. I have checked all the fittings in the manifold for spider webs like other threads have suggested and all are clear

Propane or natural gas heater?
You may have air in the gas line that needs to be purged. It may take 10 more more starts before the air gets purged.
Have you checked you have the correct gas pressure with a manometer?

I think FDP is propane. I agree try to purge the lines by multiple startups. Always a good idea to make sure tank is full. Sometimes tank gauges can be bad. It looks like the fdp have minimum 10”wc.
It is hooked up to gas. The manual says I can use propane or gas. The guy that ran my gas line said he purged it. Maybe not enough. But I have probably tried starting it at least 10 times and I smell gas when it try’s to start. He checked the inlet pressure and it was at 10, which is in the range the manual says

Natural gas or propane?
NG and propane heaters are not interchangeable. They use different orifices and programming. You have one or the other.
You either have air in the line or the wrong model heater.
If your heater is the FDP then it is propane and will not work with NG without modifications
Can I just replace the orifices? Or do I need to replace more? Thanks for your help!!

Can I convert my heater from natural gas to propane or back?
- Hayward heaters can be converted to use NG or LP. The heater may require a new gas valve, burner orifices and/or air restrictor plate upon conversion. Hayward offers conversion kits through your local Hayward dealer. A licensed or certified gas professional will need to perform the conversion.
- NOTE: Gas fired heaters should be diagnosed and repaired by trained personnel.
