Hayward Heat Pump WOES

I have been lucky enough to have a team of pros who rescued my pool from the dead. We’ve converted to salt with a new pump and huge sand filter. The pool is beautiful, but now cold —— brrrrrrrr

after a fair amount of research I paid 4K+ for a 140,000 BTU heat pump -HAYWARD, purchased through Doheny. It sat, boxed and crated, in my garage for 10 days until my crew could install it. We uncrate it and it’s beautiful ——- BUT, the inside has mashed and crushed and mangled evaporator fins. ARRRGH

I contact Doheny, they say contact Hayward. Hours on hold later I’m instructed to send pics. Two days later their reply indicates I’m at fault for not inspecting the unit's interior when it arrived. I am an uneducated consumer, I’ve spent big bucks and they are blaming ME and the shipper for Interior Damage. WHAT A CROCK.

Normally you would never look inside and I doubt any contractor installing it would ever tell the owner that it looked like that.. Unless there is a hole in it the heater should work just fine.. I know it looks bad but I doubt it hurts it much at all...

Damage is minor and should not cause any problems as long as the condenser coil tubing is intact and not damaged, but it should be covered as warranty as you or the installer obviously did not damage the inner fins during installation (it's a big job to replace the condenser coil which may be why Hayward is hesitant to honor the warranty as they do not make the heater themselves). Doesn't say much for their relationship with their supplier! If Hayward won't budge on the warranty and the damaged fins sorely offend thine eye, you could straighten the fins with these https://www.amazon.com/SUPCO-FCR6-H...ds=condenser+fin+combs&qid=1633905978&sr=8-31. Get the correct fins per inch fin comb and start on an undamaged part slowly pulling either straight up or down while gently wiggling side to side slightly, Be careful not to cause damage to any of the undamaged fins while trying to straighten the damaged ones.
