Recently opened a pool which has a Hayward H250 millivolt heater. Amazingly, the spark ignitor still works and the pilot lit within the first couple of pushes on the ignitor. Pilot flame appeared normal. Turned the heater on for about 5 minutes to confirm it would ignite and worked fine. The following day my neighbour calls to tell me that there was a fire at the heater and it melted the inlet/outlets. What causes a fire in a pool heater 24 hours later when the heater is not even on? It had only operated for 5 minutes when the system was initially started. Otherwise, the pilot was the only source of flame.
Luckily, nothing major was lost aside from the heater.
