Ok, new to the forum, posted this as a comment to another post but thought I would repost to see if I could spark some interest.
When I put the filter away for the season last fall I took it apart and cleaned the inside totally.Washed all fingers with high pressure hose, not pressure wash. This spring since I returned from Florida late it was dirtier than normal. I removed as much of the debris that I could, shocked it heavily and ran the filter as I would normally. It worked for several hours and then the back pressure started pushing water out of the belly band. So I bumped and repeated. It started doing the same thing every hour. The next day, after doing tons of research I decided to clean, soak fingers in tsp overnight to remove any oils that may have accumulated on the fingers and recharged it. Same results. This morning I decided to clean it out again and soak the fingers in a solution of water and muriatic acid to remove any deposits on the inside of the tubes. Then washed tubes again, reassembled and recharged with de. Again after an hour of running the back pressure was putting water out of the belly band. I am at a loss right now. Any suggestions besides replace all 72 fingers would be appreciated. I have done everything that I know how to do. The starting pressure is about 10 psi ,then it goes to the mid thirties and blows out. When I open the filter up there is nothing on the fingers ,all the DE is at the bottom of the filter. I have put a total of 16 pounds of shock in a 27’ x 48” above ground pool. It is much better than it was but I have to bump it every hour or so to keep it going. TIA.

Rising filter pressure is indicative of an algae problem clogging the filter. Treat the algae with the SLAM Process and your filter should work with reasonable pressures.

Thanks for your reply. This is the first time I have had this bad of a problem. Even with the worst algae problem at the beginning of the season I have not had this problem. I usually shock, bump when pressure goes up and clean and recharge when the pressure goes up too fast. This year I have cleaned and recharged 3 times in the last four days, and the pressure goes up dramatically in an hour. I don’t believe it is an algae problem. I believe it is something with the filter. As I wrote I have done all the cleaning I know how to do and I still have the over pressure problem. As I said when I open up the filter the fingers have no DE on it and nothing clumped up at the top of the nest like I usually do when I take it apart.

What test kit do you use?

Post your water chemistry.

I just have a simple test kit. When I run into major problems I go down to my local pool place and let them tell me what to do. I haven’t tested yet. This is the first time I have had this problem. I will get the water tested tomorrow and see what they say. I was hoping someone had the same problem and knew what it was. I just don’t think it is a chemical problem. I could be wrong though. Thanks for your help.

We are here to help but we would suggest TFPC methods instead of pool store methods. We have many thousands of pool owners using TFPC methods.

I don’t have the EC50AC and don’t know how much DE you add. But the DE can settle down when the filter is opened and it should get sucked up when the water is flowing.
