New pool owner here! I researched old threads and followed the advice but we are still having issues.

Opened pool early May in northeast and it was full of green algae. Water is cloudy but a lot better than it looked at opening and we still have some algae (dead I hope) on bottom of pool. Our issue is that our filter reaches high pressure almost immediately and we are bumping every 20 minutes, backwashing a few times a day, we have taken apart the filter and hosed off the filter fingers twice but we are still having to bump every 20 minutes. This isn’t sustainable when we go to work this week. Will shocking the pool help with the pressure? Is there something else going on that we should be addressing?

PH is 7.4 (we had high ph yesterday but addressed that with acid)
Free chlorine is 1-2 (but maybe a shade lighter so very little chlorine)
Total chlorine is also 1-2

Welcome to TFP!

First some good news. There's probably nothing wrong with your filter...filters gonna filter. Most likely, the problem is algae. Algae doesn't always present as a green mess. Your cloudy water, low FC level, and dirty filter are all evidence of an algae outbreak. We can help you fix it, but you'll need a TFP recommended test kit and a couple to a few days of adding liquid chlorine and maintaining FC levels. You'll need to complete the SLAM Process. For the test kit, you'll get the best value from the kits at tftestkits.net. There are no shortcuts when "slamming" if you want to eradicate the algae.

Take some time to research the link below.

NE,

What you are seeing is a pretty typical case of algae, whether you can see it yet, or not..

The filter is doing exactly what filter are supposed to do.

If you follow our pool care process, you will find that an FC (Chlorine) level by itself is useless, as the amount of FC you need is directly related to your CYA (Stabilizer) level..

What is your current CYA level?

Thanks,

Jim R.
