I have a Hayward AquaRite t3 salt cell system. It was installed October 2022. My salt reading has always been pretty accurate until this last week. I went from 3400ppm to it reading 4600ppm without adding salt. Cleaned cell and got water tested. The water from the pool company says 3450ppm. I tried to recalibrate but it will not go lower than 4600ppm. Any ideas? All my readings on the system are within specs suck as output and ampmerage. Just the salt reading is wrong all of a sudden.

Welcome to TFP.

Check that the T-cell type is set correctly.

How many gallons are in your pool?

This is the basic information we need to know in diagnosing a problem:
  • Report all diagnostic readings when you..
    • Move the switch from auto to off and check all of the readings.
    • Move the switch back to auto and recheck the readings.
    • Move the switch to off for a minute and then back to auto and recheck the readings.
  • What are the first seven characters of the cell and box serial numbers?
  • What is the actual salinity and how are you measuring it?

Not when I took the readings.
That is not exactly what I was asking.

82F is not the water temperature I would expect in your area with an unheated pool.

If your prior lower salt readings were with lower water temperature I believe the Aquarite is reacting to the higher water temperature.

They can try a new circuit board and/or they can measure the DC amperage to the cell.

To measure the DC amperage, pop off the cover with the serial number and clamp around both black or both white wires.

Oh sorry. No that’s the normal water temperature for me. Heater has not been on the last few weeks as we get pretty warm in southern Ontario.

Just an update.

Called Hayward and went through the diagnostics with them and they are sending me a new cell under warranty. Hoping that’s the fix and not the board.
