Having a pool built and need advice

How many bags of salt do you folks figure I need in this pool? Pool builder bought quite a few. I haven't counted them but its more than 10.

Each bag should get you about 250 ppm. 12 bags would get you 3000, and with some already in there, would probably be about right.

Definitely get a baseline before any is added. A member last year was at 600 from only the startup month.

Then add 75% of the difference and creep up to the target.

I haven't done the salt test yet, so you're suggesting doing it at least once. Cool, more learning :)

@voidpointer I want you to think about all that you have learned already! I have had a blast watching this thread! You are doing such a great job taking care of your pool already! I hope you will think about jumping in some other threads like in the Just Getting Started area to see if there is anyone you can cheer on. Share your story and let them know they are not alone. After a while you will even find one where YOU can give the answer! That is such a rush!

Oh yeah. I went light on mine (4 bags under what I thought i needed) and hit the target.

For Salt, Calcium and CYA, always creep up to the target because you can only remove them quickly by draining.

I'd tell the PB that you will handle it when the time comes, he won't care. And that's *exactly* why you want to do it yourself. Mine woulda dumped in the other 4 bags from the start. :)

How do you add the bags in? Is there a method? I can't imagine you just pour bags in and let salt pile up at the bottom of the pool.

EDIT: Also I've been noticing a lot of water around the equipment lately. Probably since the impeller on the booster pump got repaired, but I don't know for sure. Could be from the filter or the booster pump looks like. Any thoughts?

This one time, and for only salt, that's exactly how you do it. Come back every 30 minutes and brush. By round 2 or 3 there won't be any left. This was 19 bags (aiming low) which I dumped onto the stairs, then swept to the middle. Use the shallow end because brushing is easier there. Also make sure the cell is off for at least 24 hours after. (If it's installed yet)

Wanted to know if it is too high or if the depth it has to drop into (4.5 ft) was too much for a little kid. For example the cyclone looks good for small kids as it drops into 3.5 ft of water but it looks like they will outgrow it soon.

Looks like the filter is dripping under the drain... Maybe it isn't tight enough?
You can try tightening it a hair (verifying at full RPM). But not too much as over tightening anything with a gasket/o-ring will pinch it and cause more leaks than you were trying to solve.

Reading this:

What does it mean by cleaning the inside of the filter? There's no way to reach inside of those tube shaped cartridge filters...

Well I decided to clean the filter for practice. Wasn't that complicated honestly. The filter flosser was slow to use though. Would a pressure washer be more effective and faster? Here's a pic of one of them after cleaning and two others dirty. They were full of tons of sand from construction!

adding salt=Diamond Day! Make sure everyone is in the pool before you put the salt in. As the salt floats down it looks like diamonds. The kids love it and it helps to mix it in with them swimming around trying to catch them!

Cleaning the cartridge filters=you getting wet. I used to put mine on a block on grass and just used the hose nozzle set to stream. I would "walk" the cartridge around until it was all clean. I never tried the special things as my way worked.

You can and should rinse out the inside of the filter housing to make sure there is nothing left in there the cartridge did not pick up.

Some have areas you can get to, like mine for example.

I like this cleaner. It gives your garden hose alot more oomph like a pressure washer, but isn't powerful enough to damage anything. Turbo/hydro Jet. The fan tip gets between the pleats like a champ when held vertically.

I did a salt test today to get that baseline you were talking about. after 1-2 drops it was a light orange and then after the 3rd drop, jumped to nearly a brown color. So I'm not sure if I should record that as 400 or 600ppm. I went with 600ppm since it could pass as a milky red / brick color... but let me know what you guys think (picture attached). I'm going to tell the PB I will put the salt in. I have 13 forty-pound bags of it. Couple of questions:

- How many bags do I put in initially?
- Should I wait until it all dissolves before doing a salt test after to check level before adding more?
- The Aqualink doesn't seem to report a SWG. Where do I go to make sure it is enabled and toggle it on/off?

EDIT: appears maybe that you hit the "Set AquaPure" button on the web interface and change percentages here? I assume 0% is off, as opposed to an ON/OFF button like with the JVAs.
