Harley's Pool

kids love to skim for bugs while they are in the pool (if you Tom Sawyer them correctly) I have a cheap flat skimmer net without the long handle. I skim when I first get in.
if nobody has mentioned it yet, cheap disposable hair nets in your skimmer basket help keep a lot of junk out of your sand filter.

you don't want to use those two lower suction ports if you are trying to have your skimmer collect surface debris - they will just lower the flow going through the skimmer.

Howdy everyone, I have been thinking of closing my pool and have been putting chlorine in it every once in awhile. Today some algae was on the bottom of the pool.

Should I go ahead and close or just maintain through the winter? I'm in eastern NC and it doesn't freeze really here in Fayetteville

I brushed up the algae and will add more chlorine tonight

Lori's Ace Hardware has it in stock.
Slam now before closing, or you will likely have swamp in the spring. Also easier with colder water.

So I dumped a gallong of chlorine in it yesterday before making my forum post lol all the algae is gone today.

Tested FC at 4 today and CYA 30. So gonna add the pool math recommendation to it

Any good options on Amazon?
The cells are rated for 24/7 operation, and even then may not keep up with moderate UV loss by you. A 2x cell generally only needs to run 12 hours in the peak season, making it last twice as long. A 3x cell needs about 8 hours of runtime and lives 3x as long.

I prefer to avoid intex equipment at all costs. It's just not designed to last. Many have good performance from Saltron (click link) for only a little more.

I'm confused - the one I linked from Amazon just isn't good enough? Even for my ~6-7k gal pool?

The 7k cell may not keep up during heat waves and you'll be supplementing with liquid chlorine. Every bit of help not lugging jugs helps of course, but it stings when you buy something for a job and it doesn't do the full job.

The 2X combo unit is better sized, but you're spending some of it on the filter and pump. The cell's electrinics may die before the plates are used up because they really dont need to last very long. People used to replace theirs every fall on clearance. To get a better quality unit, it's a little more than that, but if the saltron outlived the pool, it would work on the next one too.

If the two you linked are my only options, I'd pick the bigger SWG. :)

Ahh I see what you're saying and yeah I'd be pretty upset if I had to add liquid chlorine.
Is the saltron the only option you recommend for me or is there other options?

I know it will get hot here so definitely want to buy something that is going to do the job.

Exactly. You'd be throwing buckets around, eventhough it still covered most of your loss. :ROFLMAO:

Its the only one i've consistenty seen praise for, but lets page @Mdragger88 to see if she knows any others.

Its tough with intex pools. A reasonably priced system probably spends more in electricity running 24/7 than it saved. If you go big for less runtime, the SWG cost jumps instead.
Wait, 0.7 or more why? The saltron that new dude sent is listed as 0.4
0.4 would get you 6.8 FC a day, and cover you even in the worst heat wave. But it would need to run 17 hours or so to do so. You'll have to decide which is less expensive, more electricity or more SWG. It's only for the worst stretches, when it's not so bad out you don't need as much runtime when there's less daily loss.

Is the electricity cost really that much? I already run my pump 24/7...

I'm talking about the pump electricity. Most only run their single speed pumps for a few hours a day. So they'd see the jump to 16 or 24. If you're already running 24/7, then it's just another Friday today. (y)

Haha yeah I'm just lazy to go outside and turn it on/off since I'm still using the pump that came with the pool.

So to recap, the saltron is still the best option? Until we here from the member you pinged?
