Hi all, I am in the middle of getting my pool setup, and I am running 2" pvc to hard plumb. My pump is a Tidal Wave 2 speed, and I currently have it setup to be used with my old intex. so, the pump has adapters that screw in and accept the intex flex hoses. I am converting it to the 2" pvc, and will take out the adapters. My question is, what fitting do I need to get that will screw onto the pump? it would be a female thread to a SLP for the pvc.

Also, for unions, shut off valves? Where do you get most of your fittings? pipe, 90° elbows, ect... I can get at my local Menards, but I wanted to use a better shut off valve and union then what they have. Also, what glue do you guys all use? does it matter on brand?

Thanks

Sorry I can't help you with the adaptor fittings, as I'm not familiar with Intex.

As to the other PVC fittings. Be sure to get schedule 40 or 80 PVC (pressure) and not DWV (drain) fittings. You can obtain these at Menard's, Home Depot, etc. Grainger is a good source as well.

As for the valves... after my experience, I can only recommend the rebuildable valves from Jandy, Pentair, or Hayward.
Every ball valve that I have had from the big box stores has failed before I ever had the opportunity to use it. (handles snapping off, valve frozen in place) This meant a number of times racing to find the skimmer and return plugs + a lot of additional water on the ground when I finally got to break the fittings. I finally bit the bullet 3 years ago and plumbed in my system with the Jandy valves. Yeah, they're stupid expensive, to me they've been worth every cent.
There may be times when you have to stop the water from leaving the pool right NOW... nothing worse than going to throw that valve and it won't budge. The other thing is that when the valves don't work as they should, folks tend to put off maintenance (cleaning out pump basket, filter cleaning, heater repairs, etc).

The unions at the big box stores have never been an issue for me. I've got some that are over 8 years old and still work fine.

As to the glue... make sure it's compatible with PVC (there are CPVC, ABS, and other material specific glues that may or may not work). Additionally, is the working time of the glue (some set EXTREMELY fast). Others yet are designed to work if you have a damp set up. Good article here.

Depending on how big your runs are and how elaborate you want to make your piping... you may want to purchase a PVC cutter. Although a saw will work, you'll get a much cleaner installation with a cutter & it will save you a fair amount of time.

Best of luck on your re-pipe. Be sure to let us know how it goes.
Resepctfully,

Was there a specific reason you're piping the whole thing in 2" PVC?
1½" should handle the flow rates needed in an AGP and the overall cost of pipe & fittings will be reduced significantly. (I noticed that the price of PVC fittings was almost double this year with COVID). You'd simply need some reducers. There seems to be a wider variety available in the 1½" than the 2", at least in the stores around here.
Respectfully,

thanks for the info. the previous pool was an intex, I had switched it to an intex swg and sand filter, the old intex pump had died, so did the swg, so I went with a new swg, a new pump a couple years back, and still the exisiting sand filter. I had heard/read it is more efficient for water flow using the 2" vs 1.5 or smaller. its not a big deal on price, I don't have long runs, I'll use maybe 3 - 10' pieces.
