Gutting IC40 to use as dummy cell?

Can you cancel the order or send it back, then buy it in the spring? Six months of warranty on an IC40 might be worth five more bills next year, ya never know (next week I'll be on my third one in a year and a half)...

I see what you are saying... I did buy it with my Costco Credit card which theoretically will add a 1 year to the warranty. I think I'll install it, and run it for a week to make sure it works, and then take it off and throw in my old one.

The warranty situation on these cells is pretty bad in the first place... with only 60 days for DIY install and 1 year for some guy who doesn't necessarily care about your install at the cost of $200-$250 for 15 minutes of labor. Maybe I should get the square trade warranty. I think it was 3 years for $27? Anybody ever successfully use squaretrade on pool parts?

Was the original cell installed professionally, for a one- or three-year warranty?

I thought I read somewhere that if the original cell was installed by a pro, then the next cell is considered user-replaceable, and so comes with a one-year warranty. The cell is user-cleanable, as per Pentair instructions in the manual, and cell replacement is simpler than that, right? Worth a call to Pentair support to confirm, so you know what your "grand total" warranty is with any add-ons you might purchase.

Interesting... Original Pentair Equipment was installed by my PB and got the three year package deal warranty. Never had any issues with any of the equipment except for the panel temperature sensor that went bad which was changed under warranty.

I'll give them a call on Monday and let everyone know how that goes...

Thanks Ping, I found that in the warranty card information. I'll make sure to register my new unit to get that warranty.
