Grounding rod question

yes you always bond the filter and anything metal the pool water runs through at the pad no matter how far away from pool. you do not want to ground the pool with a rod. the bonding loop is not a ground at all, its an conductive ring to bring all water/metal contacting points of the pool to a nuetral balance of eachother. the only place ground and bonding connects in a pool is the UL listed pool light junction box. if you have an automation panel that has a metal enclosure it joins there too often. they are independent systems doing two different jobs

The filter is not required to be bonded unless it is metal and within 5 feet of the pool.

A nonmetalic filter is not required to be bonded.

A metal filter is not required to be bonded if it is more than 5 feet from the pool.

Basically, if a piece of equipment is supposed to be bonded, it will come with a bond lug.

If something comes with a bond lug, bond it. If it doesn't come with a bond lug, you usually don't have to bond it.

I don't know of any filter that comes with a bond lug.

Note that "Storable" (Above Ground) pools are not required by the NEC to follow all of the same rules as permanently installed pools.

Individual jurisdictions may have specific requirements that need to be followed.
