Ground water in pool under renovation

So, I'm still waiting for "remodel coping" to be delivered so my pool reno can be finished. This project has gone on way longer than they made it sound. Anyway, the pool is obviously empty, but ground/rain water has seeped up into the pool (and spa). They keep telling me that I don't have to worry about the pool "popping" but I want to hear from you guys.

Should I be worried about the pool popping?

What can I do about the gross standing water?

I assume it's a great breeding ground for mosquitoes and I'm fairly certain it's starting to smell as I had a few whiffs yesterday of something like decaying plant matter. Can I put some pucks in there to try and make it *less* gross?

Yes, you always have to be worried about an empty pool popping out. Especially in Florida.

Either use a sump pump to pump out the standing water of pour some liquid chlorine into the water.

Does the pool have new plaster or old?

Ground/rain water in the pool is not an issue and will not do any damage to the pool shell. And yes, pools can “pop” from the hydrostatic pressure under the pool. Pour some chlorine in the water.

At minimum open up the hydrostatic valve to let the underground water in easily.

Thank you all. I realized/remembered that it was ok because the pool company had indeed opened the "plug" so I should be all good. Also visited a friend who by chance is at the same stage in his pool build as we are in our reno and he's got the same gross ground water in it at the moment. Thank you! That relieved a lot of worry.
