Thursday: I have a 24' round above ground pool which holds around 14,000 gallons of water. It has rained quite a bit in the last 2 weeks and my once blue water is green and I have been to the pool store 3 times. I have put in 14 bags of granular shock.., 5 at a time.. had water tested.. Answer-- everything is good 5 more lbs. 2nd time-- put in 5 more granular shock as directed 2 days later 2 bags... No change
3rd time--
Pour 1 bottle of algaecide in pool. Wait 24-48 hours then add more shock. Result as of today: nothing has changed
Here are my latest testing on my water.. 2 days ago
Total Chlorine 4.2
Free Chlorine 4.2

Total alkalinity 100
Calcium hardness- 275

I am so happy to see blue after 3 weeks of dark green murky. I know I'm not finished and still following direction of slamming and reading and following chart but I am thrilled to see the blue! Any suggestions, or do I keep following the slamming directions? I am so happy I found this site! Finally getting results without spending lots of money for chemical I don't need!

Monday:
pool still blue but FC hasn't changed and PH has risen ????? Still using scanning strips! Kit has not come. Checked pool again! Here are levels? Do I try to get ph down first? I put in values in Pool Math on this site and target level 20 for FC and total Chlorine. It also says to lowers ph, but I didn't know if it applies to slamming the pool.

Total hardness 500
FC 10... I need a 20. For a CYA LEVEL OF 50. Pool calculator on this site says to add 291 oz of 6% bleach
TC..10
*PH 8.4* do I need to lower this first before putting bleach in? I know levels are erratic when adding bleach (shock)
Alkalinity: 120
CYA: 50
ERICA 61

Re: Pool looked like a swamp but now blue.. still on steps in slamming.. thank you

Stay with it. Patience and consistency are two of the biggest proponents of the SLAM. Since your CYA is 50, make sure to keep the FC at "20" which is your proper SLAM FC level. Other than that, hang in there!

We have a sand filter and I've check the pressure and it's good and replaced sand etc. I hate that about your filter! Still working on FC and getting it up to 20. Not home free yet until I shut down the pool! Thanks so much for everyone's help.

Ah, you said that in your post, sorry.

I'd just add a half gallon of bleach a day with the pump running until your kit comes.

In the meantime, could you fill out your signature with your pool info? Post results when you get your kit!

Erica, where did you order your kit from?? Which one did you order?

As soon as it arrives do a full set of tests. We hesitate to suggest anything based on "Guess-Strips" because we could be fooled by their often inaccurate results.

Have a gallon of muriatic acid on hand though... you'll probably need it. And of course more jugs of bleach :)
