Green Pool - Again

I currently have been struggling with algae for 2 weeks. Pool was green on the bottom when I opened it (able to see the bottom). Now, after unfortunately putting 3" pucks in the skimmer - thought it was OK - and now I have removed them - for about a week and brushing, the algae will not disappear and is worse than day 1. There was a time when the pool was a bluish/grayish color and I thought I was heading in the right direction, but . .

Did you get the proper test kit last year? Are you using that for your results? Please put the test kit you are using into your signature.

From your thread last year, you know you must reduce your CYA and SLAM Process.

Numbers look reasonable within range with the exception of the CYA.

If you have a non salt water generated pool you want your cya levels to be between 30 and 50 PPM. You are going to have to drain some water and refill with fresh water, to get your cya levels down to allow your chlorine to sanitize more effectively.

Most likely your cya is high due to the use of the trichlor pucks from last season. Please continue to use the TFPC method of liquid chlorine bleach to sanitize and SLAM the pool

Is it possible to see results with the high CYA if I increase the bleach?
The most recent activity was 10 gallons of concentrated bleach that sent the FC to 10. Unfortunately, my pump shut off over night and the green the next day was the same.
What % of water needs to be removed from the pool to lower the CYA? 30-50 if the range, correct?

Do you have a proper test kit? Are those tests from that kit?

You can attempt to SLAM with that CYA. See [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]. Will take a FC of 31 ppm. Buy a tanker load of chlorine.

You need a 50% water exchange to lower your CYA to 40.

Well, I have a large bucket of the pucks. Am I able to use them sparingly? and avoid the high CYA?

Not sure what you mean by chart?

You have a liner pool. You should not lower it any further than leaving 12-18" of water in the shallow end. So you may have to do a couple drain / refills. Just test CYA after the first one to see were you are.

I used the pucks last year, in the skimmer basket, and didn't have problems once the pool was clean really. Just luck?

I suppose I could find a pool water company to bring it in.

Not good. I invested a ton of money in the pucks. I suppose I could sell them and use the bleach as the substitute.

How does the pool industry sell so much of the granular chlorine and pucks when the CYA is so affected?

Having a company come in and refill the pool should allow me to drain the majority of it correct? rather than a bit at a time and rechecking?

There are three reasons why the pool chemical companies and pool stores and manufacturers sell so much of this garbage. One is because of the inexperience of pool owners and the know how of properly balancing water chemistry. Two is convenience. Most Pool owners don't feel like throwing in gallons of bleach on a weekly basis. But when you have proper water chemistry, and no algae outbreak you won't need to add more than 1-3 gallons a week to maintain FC. Number 3 is the most devious one. Not the kids behind the counter, or a manager running the store, but the pool chemical manufacturers know what they are selling you is nothing more than a mere trade off of temporarily solving one problem, only to find that their product intentionally invents another one down the long road. Its a vicious cycle that rakes in $$$. Until people come here, and learn a few things and say...
Never Again.

Maybe you can get away with doing a 1/3 drain, and refill, retest CYA and see if that gets you to a manageable level of 50 PPM?
