Got the test kit in the mail the other way when I was away.

Ever got excited for something but nervous as well?

CYA 80-90 (two tests). As mentioned on here, its going to take awhile to get used to it to really feel comfortrable with the results. The two tests I did were in that range.

FC 21.5
CC 0.5
TC 22
TA 80, but I wasn't sure how red is red, so I added a bit more and it turned a bit more into the red section... leaving 110.

The daily CL and PH test... not sure about that one. They said to add water to the thin line, but I didn't know which line that was exactly. I did the test twice and came up with similar results. They looked out of whack.

So TFP wisdom posters... I know my CYA is high.

What are the steps to circumvent these results?

P.S. I hope I get my smart stir device soon. Whoever said it was a God send wasn't kidding.

For CYA > 90ppm, repeat the test adjusting the procedure as follows:

  1. Fill the mixing bottle to the lower mark with pool water.
  2. Continue filling the mixing bottle to the upper mark with tap water.
  3. Shake briefly to mix.
  4. Pour off half of the contents of the mixing bottle, so it is again filled to the lower mark.
  5. Continue the test normally from adding R-0013, but multiply the final result by two.

If you need to dilute the pool water further then apply these ratios:

Pool waterTap or distilled waterMultiply result by
112
123
145
Note that when doing a diluted test not only do you multiply the range of the test you multiply the error rate of the test, so results are a ballpark - not an absolute.

See CYA Testing for tips in how to read the test results.

Ok, anytime I hit 90 or above I'll dilute the mixture.

Off to try it.

When you mean upper mark, do you mean the 15 or the 30 line?

Should have asked this before..

Ok, question then.

In the original test it had be start at 7.5ml with pool water, then fill to 15ml with the 00013. Then test.

Am I filling about 7.5ml of the 0013 from the 15 line?

They changed things around for the Pro bottle.

You do the dilution 50/50.

You can use the 7.5 and 15 lines or the 15 and 30 lines. Either works for the test.

I would use the 15/30 lines as it will be more precise.

Ok.

So fill the pool water to 15, tap to 30.

Mix then drain down to 15. Then add the formula back up to 30?

It depends which cya test tube vial you have. The older test kits came with larger test vitals so the smaller 7.5/15 mL samle wouldn't generate enough liquid to fill the tube so there's no choice but the 15/30ml amount but the pro comes with a skinny narrower tube so the smaller liquid sample will be sufficient. You're also saving half the amount of R0013 on each test by having the skinnier test vial.

So, which should I do? The picture of what I have is in the OP.

For the diluted test I'd say 15/30 and for subsequent testing 7.5/15 , Be sure of the exactness at each level with the 7.5/15 mL as room for error is less.
Ok. So fill the tube with pool water to 15, then tap up to 30.

Then mix, pour out to 15 then refill with 0013.

Making it to 30ml to retest?

Hope I'm doing this right....

Filled to 15 with pool, rest to 30 with tap. Mixed, dumped down to 15. Filled with the 0013 to 30.

Shook. Waited 30 seconds, shook again.

Held at waistline, and 'dropped' the mix into the tube. Did it 3 times as I had a lot of formula.

This is what I came up with. Looks to be about 50, but 50x2 being 100 CYA? Does it look right?

How do you intend to chlorinate your pool going forward?

When do you plan to close your pool?
Gonna convert to Salt in the Spring. Closing as of now the week of 10/10.

I am concerned cause I am getting green looking stuff at the bottom of the pool when I get up I'm the am and look.
