Got fertilizer in pool

If ammonium sulfate, it will create a very large chlorine demand. If any iron in it, it will stain but those can be removed with ascorbic acid.

Nope. One ppm of ammonia consumes 10ppm of FC. That reaction happens very quickly. You're running the risk of an algae bloom since your FC levels will be low until the ammonia is removed. I suggest you add 10ppm FC, test it 30 minutes later. Add FC back to 10ppm. Repeat until the FC level holds.

So here is the story. I’ve had a recurring problem with algae. in the past I would shock and pool would go clear. I would vacuum and hours later a brown like sand looking would appear on bottom and sides(picture attached)
finally listened to site and started slam process about 4 weeks ago. I admit I have had some interruptions but I got pool very clear but could not pass OCLT . Loss 2 ppm when tested . I have used 48 gallons of liquid shock (10 percent) while researching I came across the fertlizer thing and remember the spill. I guess I’m wondering if this is what is causing the high chlorine demand ? My biggest issue is the brown stuff that continues to appear on the sides and bottom of the pool Despite the high chlorine levels. I guess what I’m wondering should I just continue on until I can pass all three slam criteria? i’m attaching a picture of what the bottom looks like as I’m having to vacuum every day. I just heard this is been a long-term problem I dealt with last summer. I’m thinking I’ll never kill the algae despite the large amounts of chlorine i added. sorry for long post . I can post current results if needed. I have not done a deep clean of my filter as I have no clue how to open it lol. The spots in photo come back to same area then spread. This picture was taken after vacuuming this morning. Thanks

Let’s start by preforming the SLAM Process As it’s clear there’s something trying to grow. Once you pass the OCLT we’ll really dive deep. Can you post a full set of current results?

The CYA drop isn’t alarming really as I suspect it’s kinda a test error. Only variable that I’d tinker with is the pH, drop that to 7.2 and start the SLAM 👍

I will start slam tomorrow. Attaching one more photo. This may not be related at all but I want to get all the information I can. These spots in the picture Are appearing all over the pool. It May not be related I I wanted to share as much information as I could. Thanks so much

In process on slamming and was cleaning behind the light and two hung chucks of attached came out? I’m assuming this is alage? Question. Could two pieces like this have been my problem? I will continue with slam But just wanted to confirm what this was And potentially the problem? Thanks

The stuff on the steps is probably cobalt stains from water getting beneath the acrylic on the steps into the fiberglass which contains cobalt.

The algae in the pool might be mustard algae.

You need to do the SLAM process.

How much fertilizer got in the pool and what is the chemical makeup of the fertilizer?

Not unusual to find gunk like that when you are starting a SLAM. Good job getting it out of there, check other potential hiding spots as well.
