We moved into our current home in 1999 and had our pool installed about a year later, so this pool has been around for a while. I've also had a vinyl pool and a smaller plaster pool in previous homes.
I found this site looking for an answer to a very specific question, but it looks like there's a lot of good information and discussion here, so I'll spend some time looking around and may end up hanging out occasionally.
We are lucky that there's a family-owned pool supply and service in town that is always ready with good advice. I do all of my own maintenance, and always have, but am still learning all the time, so I'm glad to have found this resource as well.

Thanks Texas. I'll add that when I get a chance. I have to go out and fill in a big hole this afternoon.

Here's a recent picture of the pool.

Geez, I just noticed the pic. Wow, that slide. There have got to be some stories behind that one. Looks like fun.

We've definitely had some fun with it. When the pump is running the water flows down the slide and also over the spillways on both sides, creating sort of a water curtain over the grotto. When it was installed our kids were in grade school and it got a lot of use. They're both grown now so not as much anymore. We've had kids go down feet first, head first, upside down and right side up and in tandem. One kid even tried to surf down standing up, but we sort of frowned on that. Lots of climbing on the boulders as well. The depth at that end is almost 10 feet, to accommodate the slide and the diving rock to the right.

During the installation I kept a pretty close eye on the builders. From the initial layout it looked like it was pointing straight at the opposite wall. I could just see myself going down the slide and hurtling into the coping on the other side. I made them move it so it was pointing sort of diagonally down the pool. Worked out very well.
