Giving up on my inline chlorinator was a great idea

Three years ago, I had to replace my inline chlorinator. I had only owned the house for a year at that point. Ever since installing the new Pentair Rainbow, it was a nightmare. It seemed like I could never get the flow right. First, I thought it was because there wasn’t enough of a straight away upstream from it (that was Pentair’s best guess when I called them). Long story short, I could never get reliable operation. Sometimes it was fine, but sometimes it wouldn’t disperse enough chlorine. Also, since installing a variable speed pump, which I love, it added a whole different complication since low flow meant higher efficiency for pumping but not enough flow to properly chlorinate with the chlorinator.

St some point last year, I finally ditched the thing and started using one of these cheaply little floaters, and I love it. It’s reliable, it’s easy to check…it’s so much better then the mess I had with the inline chlorinator!

I just wanted to post in case anyone else is facing a similar issue. If anyone has specific questions, I can explain more about the specifics of the struggles I faced with it and what I tried, but I’d strongly recommend anyone who is struggling with theirs to ditch it and go for ol’ cheap and reliable floaters!

Hi and welcome to TFP. I have some light reading for you to show you how we teach pool care. I will tell you it does not include chlorine tablets. We use liquid chlorine or SWG (salt water chlorine generators).

The reason we don't advocate using tablets is that they contain extra stuff like CYA (balancer/stabilizer). If you use too many tablets your CYA will get too high and you will have a hard time adding enough FC (free chlorine) to keep your pool clean and clear. Here is a chart to show you how CYA & FC works together:

I hope you find this helpful!
