Sorry to be a wet blanket but "air in the filter" doesn't account for the symptoms you described. What is your psi now? It was 40 going to 60 when you first posted, right?

I think you still may have an undiscovered suction side leak but time will tell.

With new gauge pressure is at 18. And zero when turned off.
