Fuse blows as soon as the salt cell is connected

So, I am running a pool pilot DIG -220 with the older board. The issue that I am having is quite strange. The display panel / control board fuse (f2) blows as soon as I plug in the salt cell. I mean immediately. I just finished switching out the salt cell power supply board with one from eBay. The original power supply experienced a thermal event.
The pool pump timer works fine and turning the pump on/off works as typical. But if I plug in the salt cell the fuse immediately blows. I have the pump off when I connect the cell.
Does anyone have any idea why f2 would blow as soon as I plug in the salt cell?

Unplug the trisensor and see if it looks damaged.

Check the cell cord and cell for damage or a short.

How old is the unit?

If it's really old, you might be better off replacing the whole unit than spending a lot of money replacing parts.

The original power supply experienced a thermal event.

What happened?

You might need a new control board.

Does the control board look ok or damaged?

Is the unit wired for 115 volts or 230 volts?

How old is the cell? Is the cell clean?
