Hello!

We recently dipped down into the freezing temps in South Texas and have a question.

I have 2 pumps. One is for the main pool / spa (#1) and one for the Scuppers / bubblers (#2). When the temp dipped both pumps turned on but Pump #1 turned on the spa/heater but not the normal pool pump. Help me reason this. Why would the spa need to come on (and try to heat when I don't want it to) and prevent the main pool jets from running for the main pool? I know the main pool and spa work interchangeably (when one is on the other is off) so perhaps this was a missed setting by my pool builder to turn off spa freeze and turn on pool freeze trigger?

I checked and the freeze triggers are set for:

1. Spa -> on
2. Pool -> on
3. Scuppers / bubblers -> on

1 and 2 are on the same pump.

Please advise. Thank you in advance!

B,

If you have both the pool and spa set up to come on with freeze protection, then the EasyTouch will switch between the two every 15 minutes. You can set the manual heat command to prevent the heater from coming on..

Menu, Settings, Manual heat.. Set it to opposite to whatever it is now.. If on, turn off and if off, turn on. I can never remember which and I don't have an integrated spa to test.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Oh great makes sense.

Since they run through the same pipes, would it be ok to just turn off spa freeze and use main pool since they use the same pipes and same pump or do need to ensure it's on?

Thanks!

FYI - Attached current setup.

In the Screenlogic Config, check the box for Spa Manual Heat.

This is how mine is set up. When I used Freeze Protection, the valves moved and heater did not turn on. Now I just turn off FP and figure the once in a lifetime it might get below freezing in my area I can turn it on or roll the dice!!

The box is/was checked and the heater was coming on during the freeze. I could hear it running. I looked at the App on my phone and saw the heater was engaged.

Little worrisome that the check box doesn't seem to be working as intended.

That is odd.
If your pool is set up so the spillover goes while you are in Pump mode, turn the spa FP off. No real need for it. The spa suction is a minor risk, but unless you are subzero for many many hours, it will not freeze.

B,

Uncheck the box and see what happens.. I seem to remember it is "Pentair Logic" and backwards to common sense.

In fact, I'd appreciate if you would try it and see what happens, so I don't have to just guess about it.

Thanks,

Jim R.

The "Manual Heat" setting for the spa only comes into play when the Spa Heat is set to OFF. If Spa Heat is set to HEATER, the heater will always turn on when the spa runs and the water is colder than the set point.

I always run my spa manually, never on a schedule. So my Spa Heat is always OFF and Manual Heat is always ON.
