Thank you. The screen issue is resolved, they came out and tightened up the bolts and caulked the area. Apparently they "overlooked" that part at the end. The enclosure is under warranty for a year, so if I have to I will!

Thank you! They did grout the marker tile, and they did not put any of the plaster over the grout...Why??? I am nervous. Is that not the right way?:-(

No worries. It looks very consistent and blends with your finish. Your PB did a good job and probably used a grout that blends wi your finish well! Very nice job!

Thanks! At first I was going to go with the standard white gem plaster, which is why the grout lines are bone white. I decided to upgrade the plaster to bay pearl after the tile was already grouted, but the PB assured me that the tile/grout would still blend nicely with the upgraded finish. I guess he was right! They really did do a good job!

So it's official...we are pool owners! The PB came on 4/12/17 for pool school, and then he took the last of the construction equipment, pulled his sign and mailbox out of our yard and then just like that we are on our own...well not quite, the PB provides us with service for 30 days and then after that we are on our own . Between learning about the equipment, how to use it, how to maintain it, etc., the whole maintenance process seems quite overwhelming to say the least. I have my test kit, but I've yet to give it a try. We do plan on taking on the maintenance ourselves, but we have a lot to learn...I hope we are up for the challenge. Here are some pictures of the landscaping and the pool after about 2 weeks of brushing.

Thanks ShantellyLace! I was going for a tropical look and feel. I'm loving everything so far...however, I did purchase a pool heater recently. It's so hard to look at the pool on these nice sunny days we've been getting and then dip our toes in and it's freezing! The spending never seems to end!

Here is your next job-Tell us what test kit you got and put it in your signature so we can see it at a glance THEN break it open and test your fill water. That is the water you will use to add water to the pool. Do not bother testing the CYA as it has to be added. I have a small notebook with the fill water levels on the cover so I always have that info to help me remember what I need to adjust when I add water.

Once you test your fill water you should go ahead and test your pool water. With new plaster your PH will climb fast and you need to keep that under control.

Thanks Kim! I updated my signature with the test kit info. I will test the fill water and the pool water today when I get home. I have been noticing quite a bit of plaster dust every time I brush. I am assuming this would affect the PH? I guess my chemistry lesson starts today...on a side note, I was really bad at chemistry in high school

Okay Kim...I did the tests, and my confidence level is not that high right now. I just might be the first person that you may think twice about teaching. For the FC/CC the pool water would not change color when I added the powder. Am I doing something wrong? Also for the CYA test, the fill water never became cloudy We watched the videos and ran the tests a few times. It gets easier right?? Please say yes ale:

Anyway...see below for the results I got. I have the speed stir which really made that part of the process easy breezy. Do the results look suspect?

Your fill water will never have CYA, so you read that right.
When you tested the pool water Cya, the dot disappeared almost immediately?
Something is wrong with your CH calculation. Each drop that you count is X 25

You are so right! I ran the wrong test for the CH

For the CYA...I did that one 3 times and the dot all 3 times disappeared almost immediately...at the same spot every time.

So today I got used to the terminology, got a feel for the different test chemicals and got the hang of using the equipment. After my first go round, water chemistry begins to make a little more sense... I will test again tomorrow.

Let's try the CYA test one more time in the daylight, with the sun shining on your back. I could not tell by your post if tested this way. Here is another cool thing about the CYA test - you can keep the solution and rerun the test to make sure you have a good feel for it. Saves on the reagent. In fact, I have a batch sitting in my kitchen waiting for me to check it - since Saturday morning. I have been busy, not home, and lazy. Every time I remember I need to test it - cloudy or dark out side.

Bingo again! I ran the CYA test in the evening...it was still light out but the sun was going down, and I did turn my back to it. I guess maybe it wasn't bright enough. Thanks for the tips! Very helpful! Will check in tomorrow hopefully with more accurate results.

Sorry I was not here last night I am sure you needed that right about then. You did GREAT with your first run! It will all start to settle in after a few times. I bet the first set of tests took you about 20 or so mins right? It WILL get easier and faster.

Good for you on reading and starting to learn the lingo. TFP has ruined the "real world" meaning of CYA for me

Now with those results you know what you need to do. Go back to page 1, post 6. Remember that set of links I gave you. NOW is the time to use them. Look at the recommend levels chart THEN pop over to the recommended chemicals to see what you will need to change some of those levels. The most important right now are the PH (it needs to come down) and the FC (it needs to come up).

Do you have ANY idea how your CYA got SO high already? You need to plan on draining some of your water. Did the dot disappear AT the 100 line or before it? When I know this answer we can talk about how much water to drain and how.

I needed Hugs, Ice Cream and Chocolate Cake dipped in Chocolate!!! But jagger2005 helped to calm my nerves... Kim...I definitely had a meltdown moment last night, but today really wasn't that bad. I think I may be actually able to do this, with your help of course

So I tested the pool water again, and still no color change on the FC, so as recommended I ran the OTO test which was 3.

We need to get your FC up now. The swag can keep it up BUT you have to help it get to the starting point. The fc/cya chart says your FC should be at 5. Please use Pool Math to find how much you need to add to get it there. Go ahead and add that much now.
