Hi there and Happy Holidays. I've been lurking for some now while investigating for a DIY inground pool build with cinder block walls and a vinyl liner.
I've seen @duraleigh's Unusual Pool Build and I like how he has the liner track under the water line. I'm hoping that idea will help out with my plans for a sun shelf.
Here's a rough SketchUp of my 8x32 lap pool with a 8x4 sun shelf off to the side. I'm planning on 6" radius corners for easier vinyl placement. The walls are 44" high. The sun shelf is 1' deep (8-9" of water).

For this build I'm thinking of a 1' depth of tiling, followed by the liner track and the liner.

One foot of vertical tile seems like a lot given what I'm seeing from pictures online but I'd like to tile the sun shelf too so I don't have to figure out how to have a liner installed there. However, I'm concerned about the edge of the sun shelf and liner track. Would there not be a risk of people kicking and clawing at the liner track as they get in and out of the pool there?

Is this a fatal flaw in my design so far? If so is there anything I can do to better protect that edge? Does such a thing exist like a plastic covering I can buy or build to put there that is reliable and looks decent?

Any advice appreciated - even if it's to tell me I'm nuts to try to incorporate a sun shelf this way to begin with.
