First time pool owner

Hello, just bought a house with an above ground pool in Long Island Nort Fork, NY.

Trying to get the pool in usable condition. Added a picture. How should I get started with making the water clear again and how long could it take? I’d appreciate your advice.

Welcome to the forum!
You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit. I suggest the TF-100/Pro or Taylor K2006C. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.

I added the pool details in the signature and followed the SLAM process yesterday. I have been maintaining FC level of 30ppm.
I have attached the pool picture of roughly 24 hours from starting the SLAM process yesterday. The water is not dark green anymore but still can’t see the bottom of the pool yet.

I have a cartridge filter. Anything I should do to accelerate the process?

Follow the SLAM Process
It takes time. MAINTAIN is very important.

Monitor your filter. When it rises 20% over clean baseline reading you need to pop those filters out and rinse them clean. They are catching schmutz that you want to be rid of.

How often are you testing/adding ? 'Maintain' seems so self explanatory but you'd be surprised how many folks check it 2 or 3 times a day.

Every 2 hours is best when its a swamp. You can dose early at any time to buy the next block of time away for an errand or holiday party.

As it plays out the two hour checks hold well and become 4 hour checks, then 6 / 8 / etc. It'll tell you how long you can go between adds.
