First time opening!

There's a lot of.. "tree stuff" in the pool that's sank to the floor and I'm having a pretty hard time getting rid of it. Would the chlorine be trying to break this down too? Or is it really not affected by larger debris like this?IMG_20240605_153449.jpgsignal-2024-06-05-14-15-59-956.jpg

That "tree stuff" should manual vac very easy. It should not take more than an hour to vac in a pool your size. Frequent stops to clean out skimmer basket when it fills
Yes it will continue to oxidize in the chlorine, just at an ever slower rate.

As noted above, do your best to scoop, sweep, brush, and empty. You want the chlorine to work on the things you can't obviously see. I see from yesterday's posts your daily schedule makes pool care a bit challenging, but do the best you can with the time available. You'll get it.

the failed vinyl corner, it looks like it gets the brunt of the UV during the season. My liner started to deteriorate in a similar way. If it can just make it til next year...

Vacuum situation isn't great. I have a hose but no vacuum head. I almost bought one today but am concerned. I don't seem to have enough suction from the skimmer basket to put my hose there (I think that's where I'm supposed to put it right?)

I think the low flow/suction is because of the in floor cleaning. There's a large drain at the deep end that I think pulls in a lot of water. Or maybe it's this other moderately sized diameter thing that's pulling in water. I'm just not sure how all the plumbing works.

There's also this second box near the skimmer that I'm not sure of it's function either.IMG_20240603_120714.jpgIMG_20240602_131816.jpg

The schedule is difficult because I haven't moved in yet, so I'm having to stop by a couple times a day. But that changes this weekend.

Yeah, a friend said the pool store may be able to sell me a large enough vinyl patch if I wanted to go that route, but honestly I'm going to try to just limp along until next spring I think.

Vac head. I like the triangular weighted head for my vinyl pool. It really is a must to get going. I would track one down and get your system ready to vac.

An adapter plate in your skimmer will work just fine. (adapt hose to simmer basket top.) just take your skimmer basket into the store to get correct diameter.

did you close all other skimmers and main drain valves that that only the skimmer you are using is valved to pump. Is your hose in the water? The pump will have to draw up all the air out of the hose so it will take a bit unless you help it.

There's only one valve by my pump, it's a T - two lines come in and one out to the pump. I'm not sure where the two lines go, I think one to the skimmer basket and maybe one to that second basket, or the main drain? .. but either way I did alternate the valve to see if it made a difference with the skimmer basket, but I didn't notice any change.

I did not put the hose in the pool, I was just thinking I'd be able to cover the hose with my hand and feel some suction like a shop vac. Am I grossly over estimating how much suction there should be?

dont know. throw it in the water (the hose, not the dog) and the pump will tell you if it is sucking. It will burp and gargle as it pulls air thru the line to draw the water to the pump.

Are you drawing of the basket under the square skimmer lid?

Do some work with a helper and identify your valve configuration. You are probably correct in one to main drain, one to skimmer. Just which is which.

I was successful with a vacuuming test tonight during the rain storm haha!. With the weight of a brick to hold the adapter plate in the skimmer, the pump pulled all the air out of the line I was able to get suction from the hose.

I also confirmed which way the valve goes for the skimmer and which way is the main drain.

Next stop will be buying the vacuum which should make super quick work of all the debris on the floor.

The skimmer never really seems to pull much water and I'm wondering if the water level isn't right. Too high because of record rainfall in April or maybe too low because of the tear in the liner.

The weir seems to be working but to skimmer basket never seems to collect anything.

Glad you were able to vacuum. Curious about that though, did you pre-prime the vacuum hose before connecting it? Maybe you said it earlier and I missed it, but filling the hose with water before connecting it to the skimmer makes a big difference at first.

The first time, definitely not. The second time last night was in the pouring rain and I "gave it the old college try". I.e. I got both ends under the water and called it a day! Definitely did not prime it well. I'll remember that today when I get the vac head and actually vacuum all the debris from the floor probably on my lunch today. I'll send updates pictures then, I'm sure it's going to make a world of difference.

The way I prime my vacuum hose is to lay it on the water's surface end-to-end. I place one end near the skimmer, but not connected yet. Then I take the other end that will go to my vacuum head and hold it against a return jet. I also have my vacuum head next to me there. Let the return jet fill the hose with water. Watch the hose and you'll see it start to submerge a bit. Once it's full of water, I connect that end to the vacuum head and let it fall to the pool floor under water. Then I walk over to the skimmer and connect that other end. Easy stuff once you do it a couple times.
