First Time Managing A Pool

I might wait on putting the robot in the pool. I get tons of debris in my pool and it can clog the robot up pretty quickly. See what you can get out manually first. If you find yourself scooping out tons of debris I would hold off until it is more manageable.

That is a pretty pool. Good job with all that you have already done to get it clear----finding TFP AND ordering a good test kit!

We will be waiting for your test results on Friday!

Keep the pics coming!

Sorry for not getting back with the results, been a busy work week and i didn't want to rush the results.
Using the youtube videos as a guideline (https://www.youtube.com/user/tf100testkit?feature=results_main) , below are the results from the TF-kit

CYA: Under 0 - It was only a little cloudy once the water reached the top of the graduated cylinder
CH: 60-80 - It turned from purple to blue and color stayed at light blue from drops 6-12.
FC/CC: 0 - I added the DPD powder and the color of the water stayed clear.
TA: 110-130 - Color changed to link pink and stayed there between these number of drops.
PH: 8.2
CL/B: 0.5 - 1 - Seems clear and the agent had no effect.

Ready to start SLAM and do whatever else is necessary.

Ok. You need to get some CYA into your pool. Use pool math to target 30 ppm for your pool. Put the CYA into a couple of knee high socks or panty hose. Drop them in front of a return in your pool. I put rocks on mine so they don't drop into the pool. Some people tie them to something and others put the sock in the skimmer. Every time you go by the socks, squeeze them to help get it into the pool.

Use pool math calculator to lower your PH to 7.2 using muratic acid. 30 minutes after adding the MA, test to be sure the ph is 7.2. Once you are at shock level of FC, you won't be able to get an accurate PH reading.

Buy at least 10 gallons of bleach to start.

Once you have the CYA dangling, use pool math calculator to add enough bleach to bring your FC up for the SL of 30 ppm CYA. It won't show up on your test until a week later.

Once you start your SLAM, you'll only need to test for FC and occasionally CC.

Post back with any questions you have. We are here to walk you through each step.

Remember, the more you test the FC and bring that FC back up to SLAM levels the faster this will all go! It is so important to maintain that FC at shock level for your CYA. Once you put the CYA in the sock assume that your CYA is 30 even though it will not so up on your test kit. It can take up to a week to register. I find that by squeezing the sock in front of the return the CYA level is detectable the next day. Run your pump 24/7 and brush that pool!

I was looking through my pool trunk and i found a large bag of skimmer powder, a bucket containing chlorine tablet, and a bucket that is labeled oxidizer.

Are any of these needed?
Also what is a good brand for the CYA that i should be getting?

I know that you could save the chlorine tablets for a vacation, but don't use them now. I'm fairly new and haven't heard of skimmer powder, or a bucket just labeled oxidizer. I'm wondering if skimmer powder is DE powder? And an oxidizer is probably some kind of sanitizer. I'm sure others with more experience will chime in and help :)

As far as CYA, just be sure it's just Cyanuric Acid. They sell it at Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot. It's sometimes labeled as stabilizer. 100% Cyanuric Acid.

Ok guys, there was an issue with my pump so i've been trying to get that resolved.
I just purchased CYA,muriatic acid, and chlorine. For the sock fill of cya, will i be placing it near a return or inside the pump skimmer?

Thanks again for all the responses!

Ok thanks for the great responses. Fixed the issue with the pump and got everything running. I have added the CYA into the socks, put muriatic acid in the pool, and added about 3 gallons of chlorine to start. Going to keep everyone updated as i go along. Also the bleach i poured in killed all the frogs overnight, i hope the water is safe.

I really appreciate all the help!

I'm pretty new to this pool thing as well. One thing I learned is make sure you keep an Eye on your pressure gauge on your DE filter. You'll have to backwash/rinse a whole lot at first, then add DE accordingly. Don't let the pressure get too high. It can damage the cartridges.

Ok here are some issues i ran into and not sure if thats whats supposed to be happening or not.
1. Pump is running but the jets seem to stop. There are 4 jets, 2 are stronger while 2 are weaker.
Also the suction from the skimmer doesn't seem as strong? I tried playing around with the main drain/skimmer valves, i don't see any noticeable results.
2. Added 6 gallons of Bleach 7.8%, 5LBs of CYA in socks. Tested CYA this morning (after 1 day), still at 0. Tested FC is at 0. Tested CC, its at 0.5.
3. Do i keep adding bleach? When do i test? Is it better to add bleach at night to reduce loss?
4. I have a aerotemp heater, its on but it all says is FLO. Do i need to do anything with it?
Already purchased another 12 gallons from Walmart.
