First Test with TFT-100

To who ever my Angel is, thank you! Got my TFT100 and Speedstir today. It's very cool. Makes me feel like I'm in the compounding lab at the pharmacy.

These are the results I got:

with the daily Chlorine test
pH 8.2
CL 3-6

with the kit tests
FC-2
CC-0
TC-2
TA-230
CYA-30
i have not done hardness yet.

So, I know I need to bring down TA and pH.
Also, I know I need to be adding more chlorine than I have been.
Good with CYA.
My water is still perfectly clear.

i purchased PhosFree but I'm not sure if it's a sequestrant (spelling?). Also not sure how much to add weekly because the bottle has poor directions.

We did have a small rainstorm Sunday so I'm happy I managed not to let the FC drop to zero! Haha.

Any pointers on where and what to start balancing first? Thanks in advance. I absolutely love the test kit and knowing where exactly my numbers are. ?

Great job on the first test. And very nice to that angel!

You need to add Borax to your pool to get your pH down. Use PoolMath. Target pH 7.5. Since 8.2 is the highest the pH test reads you may have to do a dose / test /dose/test a few times.

For now, lets not worry about the TA. If your pH is rising rapidly as shown on your daily tests, there is a process in Pool School to help you lower the TA.

Add chlorine. Keep it above 3 ppm FC. You may have to add to 5 or 6 ppm when you add for the day to stay above 3 all day.

Return the PhosFree and get your money back. It is a snake oil that is not needed.

Take care == Have fun!!

No. They do not play nice together.

Add the acid and test after 30 minutes to be sure you are at 7.2. May take a couple adds.

Once at 7.2, add the bleach.

That is fine for pH. Get your FC up. Then do your maintenance each day and see how things go.

Ideally you want to wait 30 minutes between different chemical additions.

Here is an article on lowering TA: Pool School - Lower Total Alkalinity

The higher your TA the faster your PH will rise. Let your PH get to 7.6 and then use acid to lower PH to 7.2. You can turn your return eyeballs up so they cause a ripple in the water and this will help elevate your PH faster. By increasing your PH, you can then add acid to lower PH which will also lower your TA.

Really the main thing that can get lost in all this is to get your FC up and keep it up. Your FC does not need to fall to 0 for algae to get started it just needs to fall below the minimum (FC 2) for your CYA level of 30 ppm. You might want to aim for the higher end of the target FC of 6 so it has less chance to fall below 2.
