First Test results

PoolMath Logs

Pool was just filled last Thursday. I meet with the pool company next week to turnover. Figured I'd post my first test results here and ask for any thoughts. Using Taylor 2006 test kit.
They look fine except for CYA/Stabilizer. You’ll need some to determine how much FC is good. You should also switch to the 10ml water sample when testing FC or all your reagent will be gone too soon. You don’t need any more accuracy than +\- 0.5ppm on it.

Without cya your chlorine will be gone in a jiffy. You want 30ppm worth to start. How are you chlorinating? (Tabs? Liquid chlorine?)
Also, filling out your signature as thoroughly as possible really helps us give you the most accurate recommendations.

Thank you. Didn't test cya yet. I bought the commercial size because I want to test a lot until summer to get it down. Been awhile since I had a pool and I trusted the pool store for testing last time. Never really did it myself. I'd rather I know what's going on because I can take my time and make sire it's right.

I will be using liquid. There's an online chlorinator but I don't want tabs with stabilizer (I think)

👍🏻Correct- tabs contain cya.
But You do need some so if you’re haven’t added any you need to do so. Fresh fill has no cya .
Add 30ppm worth of granular cya/stabilizer to a sock 🧦,
tie a knot in it & hang it infront of a running return not touching the pool wall.
Squeeze the sock occasionally to help dissolve the cya.

Use PoolMath to calculate amounts.
Chlorinate accordingly
FC/CYA Levels
Test the cya level in 24 hours.

You’ll need to follow the correct startup procedures for your plaster - the builder is responsible for most of this but here’s a guide for safe practices

You want some but only until the stabilizer gets to 30ppm. Just don’t use Clorox brand or anything that says “blue” in the name.
Clorox brand stabilizer is totally fine. It is 99% cya.
About the only good Clorox product lol.

Thank you for the replies. Right now only the main drain is active. I really want the skimmer going because we don't have a pool cage yet and we have the most annoying tree dropping leaves everywhere. I just cleaned the pump basket which was incredibly full and have the pump continuing to run. Don't really want to mess with running the skimmer without the pool company here. Don't want them to say I messed anything up. Problem is it would help immensely. Just got as many leaves out of the pool as possible.

You don’t need a skimmer to add anything, specifically don’t add stabilizer to the skimmer even though the instructions sometimes say to do that. Use the sock method above.

Does the skimmer have a skimmer basket in it?
Is the water level about 1/2 way up the skimmer opening?

If both are true, turn the valve handle that is between the main drain and skimmer so that OFF is pointed to the right and the handle is pointed toward the pipe leading to the pump.

Just did this. Thank you

That's probably a good RPM for startup. After whatever period the builder or plaster warranty calls for, we can chat about setting up a more efficient schedule and rpm/speeds.

When you have some time, set up your signature with pool, pool equipment (including manufacturers and model numbers) and test kit info. Be specific.
This assists us when you ask for help without the need for us to ask you each time.
