Finally building our first pool

Hello,

I posted a while ago asking questions in preparation for our first pool build and I would like to thank everyone for their input and suggestions.

We have now broken ground and have most of the plumbing in.

I didn’t like the slope on the floor so I am in the process of changing that. But the big think I would like some feedback on is light placement. We are using Jandy Hydrocool nicheless led lights. 5 of them, 1 6w over the Cabo bench and 4 12w along the House side wall. Due to the free form design the lights look like they will shoot different directions instead of all just shooting straight across. The biggest issue I have is with the one on the Cabo bench. The design with the arrows shows the proposed lights placement and direction.

Do the best you can with pointing the lights straight out with all the curves you have.

The lights will disperse in the water and no one will notice it except for you.

Ha, that’s what I’m afraid of

I was trying to get all the lights on the house side wall but I think I may have to swing the 1) 6w at the Cabo bench over to the center of the bench facing the length of the pool. Suggestions?

Also what does anyone think about pinning the existing walkway along the house to the new concrete along the pool and would include the coping

Nothing wrong with swinging end lights around to the sides. This smaller lights aren't overpowering I've seen them across from eachother facing the house and they weren't blinding especially with colored lighting.

I wouldnt pin the walkway theres no need for it. Whatever is being poured monolithically keep 2gether. You dont want a seperate slab or mass pushing or pulling on the deck and coping. Dont forget control joints and an expansion joint behind coping

Problem with that is that is where the first step is. First step only has 6” of water over it and the light has to be a minimum of 4” under water. So it would be right on top of the step and cast a shadow I hear. Same situation if I placed the light on the side of the step, it would be right on top of the bench.

Thinking the best option is to move the end bench light to the end/center of the bench pointing down the length of the pool, 90 degrees to the rest of them. I was just working really heard to get them all on the house side and follow this lighting design guide which had a lot of good info. I have an email into the lighting design folks at Jandy so we’ll see what they think, hopefully if they ever respond.

Also this design is not quite what the reality is. We had to eliminate the little planter between the walkways off the house on the right and pull the whole pool towards the house so that it follows the contour of the existing concrete walkway with only a foot between the existing concrete and the bender board. This allowed us to run 42” walkways along the two fenced sides of the pool.

Nice pool and to have it done with plenty of summer left is sure fun eh?
