Filter will not backwash

I have a doughboy sand filter. When I switch the position to backwash the water does not come out like it's supposed to. Instead, the water continues to run into the pool through the return jet. Any suggestions?

No. I just checked. Seems like the filter setting is the only one that is working. And water trickles out in that setting. When I push the lever down to change settings water pours out of the open valve.

First thing to be aware of, is never turn the handle to another setting with the pump running.

Sounds like your ripped apart the inner gasket.

Pretty simple replacement.

Seems like I do have a problem now. The filter pressure shoots u to 20 when turned on. And that leaves hardly any water owing back into the pool. Suggestions? I did backwash it twice yesterday.

a few questions.
what is your normal pressure? When I say normal, I mean after backwash and working properly.

Are all the other setting flowing properly?
Are you getting good flow with the setting on re-circulate? (pressure for this should be 0 psi)
How about backwash or rinse? Is water flowing out the discharge line? what is the pressure reading?)
How about waste? Is water flowing out the discharge line? (pressure for this should also be 0 psi)

If I remember correctly from last year my normal pressure is around 15 or so. The gauge isn't going down to 0 at all, even when I turn it off. I'll pick up a new one tomorrow.
It seems that all of the other flows are working properly. I left it on circulate all day and the pressure was normal this evening when I came home.
It's just the filter cycle that is causing the pressure to rise and hardly any flow come back into the pool.

If the gauge does not go to zero, it's bad and you can't rely on the pressure reading.

If you are not getting good flow while on "Filter", you might have clogged up laterals.

Due to the reversed flow, the dirty water would have gone inside the laterals and might have clogged them up.

If you can't get good flow, you're probably going to have to remove the sand and laterals and clean or replace the laterals.
