Filter pressure continues to go up ***PLEASE HELP!***

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for any and all replies. I have a Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter for a 30k gallon in ground salt pool. When I back wash, the pressure is on 15 psi's and the flow is fantastic. Over the past week, the pressure has slowly increased to almost 25 psi. I have not had the water checked since opening. When I opened, i completely took the filter apart and cleaned all the grids. We have had a ton of rain and the temp has been unseasonably cool.

Does anyone know why my pressure keeps going up? I don't want to have to back wash every 2 weeks.

Thanks!

E,

Your filter is doing exactly what it should.. capturing all the unwanted junk in your water.

I don't believe that you have a filter issue, what you have is a water chemistry issue.

How are you chlorinating your pool?

What does the water look like?

What test kit do you use to check your water quality?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Your filter is working exactly as it is supposed to......catching debris from your pool water. As it catches the debris, it clogs up and flow reduces.

You need to test your water and prepare to SLAM the pool. I am almost sure you have invisible algae that you are catching and it will take a SLAM to get rid of it.

The pressure climbs because the filter is clogged.

The most common scenario is that you have a nascent algae bloom. You and the algae are at a stalemate. You kill some with chlorine and filter it out and what remains reproduces and the cycles repeats so that you have a neverending supply of algae to clog the filter.

Thank you all for the quick responses. Pool is clear, but the sides continue to develop a bit of visible algae. I brush down a couple times a week. I've been putting in Perfectly Weekly every Saturday. I don't test myself, I always take a sample to the store. It sounds like I need to test ASAP and get it back in balance. I have the chlorinator set at 20%...is that too low?

You need several things

1) Stop letting the pool store test your water and sell you stuff. Once a SWG pool is dialed -in, all you'll need is some acid and maybe a little salt or CYA to replace stuff that's splashed out or lost to backwashing. Nothing else.
2) Order a proper test kit and a salt test TFTestkits.net is the place I recommend and no I don't get a kickback
3) Yes you should crank up the SWG right now. It won't eliminate the algae completely but it will keep it from getting worse. With warmer weather and more sun algae can explode. A few patches on the wall can become a swamp in a day.
4) When you have a proper test kit, you'll need to SLAM Process. Don't even try until you have a test kit.
5) Brush brush brush until your arms and lower back can take no more, every day. That will rub off the slimy biofilm that protects algae from chlorine and allow the FC you're generating to kill it.

If I ever had to pay 600 in chemicals for my pool the water would be drained and the aluminum off to the scrap yard. Could make a nice horse shoe pit, or cornhole area out of where the pool used to be...
