For the last 2 weeks or so, our pool filter makes a horrible screeching, vibration sound when the pump first starts. The noise lasts 5 minutes or less then all sounds return to normal. The sound and vibration does not seem to be coming from the pump or motor .
The cartridge filter cylinder is where the vibration is felt and where the noise seems to be coming from. Any ideas on what could be causing the problem. Water level is fine, filter baskets are clean. Where else should we be looking?

Which filter? Picture? Sounds like it is just purging air from the tank as it fills with water.

We thought so too, however we have opened the valve at the top of the filter housing to release any air....... and water comes out. I'll have to get the filter details tomorrow in the daylight. Thank you for your thoughts.

Sometimes the single cartridge filters have a gap at the top or the bottom and water slips past and makes the sound.

You might be able to wrap some tape around the center insert to create a tighter fit.

The filter is Sta-Rite PXC75.
When the pump turned on today the noise lasted less than one minute. Then mellows out to normal sounding equipment.
