Filter Drains down every time pumps shuts off ???

Opened up the pool in the last week or so. I noticed today that upon pump start up in the morning there are a ton of air bubbles shooting out of the jets.

Then when I shut the pump off this afternoon I heard a bunch of "gurgling " happening - when I went over to the pool equipment if sounds as if the cartridge filter is draining...... I don't believe this has ever happened in previous seasons ..........

What's up with this ?

Also - just to note - there are no "wet" areas or pool equipment that is leaking while the pump/equipment is operating .....

Confused how the filter could be draining if air can't get into the system

You have a small leak. Probably on the suction side.

You have a leak somewhere in the system........usually between the pump and the emergence of the suction line from the ground.

There is an article in Pool School about suction side leaks that might help you

Check out your filter's air relief valve. See if you can hear or feel air going in when the pump is off.

I have seen a couple where the air relief valve will leak air in and not leak water out.
