My pool filter needs replacing. I suspect it does not for the reason Christophe (from here on known as The Pool Guy) says, but it is original (2004) and my neighbours say that is old. So I have gotten two quotes, one from Christophe's company and the other from my Plumber (Who is also a Pool guy, air conditioning, and, a boiler/furnace guy-it's what you get when your village has less than 600). Both quoted Triton filters, one a Triton Neo Side Clear Pro with sand, and the other a Triton W60 14m3 with glass. Both quotes came within 20euros of each other with removal, filter media, install...

Can anyone please tell me the difference between the two? I've looked at Pentaire's site and cannot find anything distinguishing...
Thank you in advance!

Would be interested to know what the reason for replacement is... An old sand filter works the same as a new one.

Anyway, I can't find a "Triton W60" but comparing the Triton II vs. the Triton Neo the only difference I can see is the Triton Neo seems to be a product specifically designed built and sold for the EU market. I get the feeling the Triton Neo is somehow the lesser "economy" model but I don't have a specific reason why.

Is anyone considering a cartridge filter instead?

Yes, we found the Triton II as well. I do not understand the 'clear Pro' benefit as I do know the pool wasn't crystal clear last year.

Long story short, I went down to the pool (you can't see it from the house) and noticed water flooding out of the mechanical room. It was under 2" of water and it was pouring out the top of the filter. I checked the threads on the lid and the threads on the filter and though a bit 'fuzzy' feeling on the female they were intact. I took this to mean that the lid did not 'blow' off as the male plastic threads were visually fine and plastic would have gouged. But, I don't know anything about pools...
No one I know here has a cartridge filter. They are all sand. Could water composition be a reason? I cannot be 100% sure the pool water does not come from ground source.
Is there a benefit to cartridge over glass?

Cartridge filters are sort of the standard now in the US but there's nothing wrong with sand filters and if they're the standard where you are no reason not to stick with that, pool guys are always more amenable to what they are familiar with.

I can't comment on sand vs glass media. Around this forum the traditional sand seems to be preferred but on other forums some pool guys swear by glass media.

Thanks for your input hwy17, I did some searching and Cartridge filters are used less than 20% in France apparently.
I would like to use the system that uses less resources, whether that's upfront cost, maintenence or longterm use. From what you've said Im leaning toward the Triton II, but will continue learning. Thanks!
