Let your FC drop to 9, then adjust pH down to 7.2-7.4 with muriatic acid.

I’m going to add the muriatic acid, let that circulate for a while and then start the SLAM. Thanks for the guidance so far. I’m sure I’ll be back for more.

I wanted to give a better idea of the water I’m working with. Filled this basin up last night for the kids to rinse dirty feet, threw a splash of chlorine in and this is what it looks like after sitting for a few hours. Give it a stir and the water seems clear again. I’ve got the hose rigged to a filter and a sock of polyfil attached to the end of the hose. It turns yellow/brown quickly. However I did have a clear pool until I started adding things like “phos-fight”, clarifier, and the 5lb tub of super shock from my pool store. Can’t help but think these chemicals mixed with my super metal packed water contributed to this cloudy mess. I know my chlorine had been through the roof for several days prior to this so I’m skeptical but I’m going to do the SLAM and follow it to the letter.

I’m starting to wonder if my sand filter is doing its job properly. I’ve passed the oclt 2x in a row. My cc is less than .5 and i am vacuuming and brushing religiously. The clarity isn’t improving AT ALL. I’ve got marks on my ladder that I look at from the same angle every day to gauge it. Sticker on the tank says 200lb and I know the people we paid to set it up only put 150 lbs of sand in. When I questioned this I was told it wouldn’t make that much of a difference and to wait until we winterized because it wasn’t worth unhooking things to add another bag of sand. Its bothered me for a while but because I initially achieved very clear water I let it go. Sometimes I attach a sock to the return while vacuuming and it always turns brown quickly. Water still looks bright blue, just extremely cloudy.

It’s been this exact color since the 5lbs of “turbo shock” on July 12. I haven’t figured out how to add a signature. What am I missing? I feel like my mom right now!

I think i got the signature done. My pump is a Hayward power-Flo LX. If it has more than one speed I haven’t found a switch to change it. Assuming it’s single speed.

I’m assuming full speed. It’s either plugged in or not. There’s no switch anywhere. I actually have an electrician coming today to hardwire it.

Power had been run underground from my barn to a post next to the pump. Right now the pump is just plugged into that box on the post, which does have a switch but I want an electrician to make sure it’s grounded properly and I don’t want the pump plug just out in the open. I want it wired in to that switch. Hopefully that happens today. Do you think I should undo the pump and add the 50lb of sand it’s supposed to have?

Good deal - when you get the filter powered on and circulating water; give it about an hour or so - and then run a full chem panel.
