+1 for Aquasalt.
I'd like to know what your CC is because FC isn't making the mark on the chart for SWCG or chlorine. For a chlorine pool CYA 80 the minimum FC is 6 which isn't where you want to be but rather the target of 9-11 and for a SWCG pool minimum is 4 and target of 6-11. You may have simple algae as you're flirting the line for sure.
Would algae be that yellow orangish color? I was thinking maybe it has an algae biofilm that the iron was sticking too. I’ll check the CC and run the pool longer. The FC was actually running at about 6. And, I quit running the pump as long because I was thinking that the high chlorine levels would have an affect on the staining of the iron.
Well, the stain go away withe AA or Vitamin C. And I don’t think algae responds to those, does it?

Some - including myself, have accidentally introduced iron via “dirty” salt from well known trusted brands (including the one the op used after refilling since her previous aa treatment). The OP may very well still have both an iron & now an algae problem. The fc/algae issue absolutely takes priority then any possible metal staining can be investigated/dealt with after algae is removed from the equation.
I’m not losing chlorine and my CC is zero. I believe it is definitely remnants from my leftover salt. I’m doing and AA treatment today and will try to sequester the rest of the season. I’ll be doing a white bucket test on ANY salt before putting it in the pool. The only other possibility is a piece of rusty equipment in my system somewhere. Praying for a good result!!
I dealt with this all last summer. I already tried slamming. It actually pushed the iron out of the water onto the walls. I’ll keep updating.
I actually can’t find the aqua salt anywhere. I used Morton prof. And, I bought the diamond crystal splash to add throughout the year. The pool looks beautiful now. It didn’t take nearly as much AA to clean it up. So, maybe it’s a good sign. Tomorrow I’ll start adding chlorine and hopefully I be able to keep it sequestered.
I sprung for the aquasalt this year - only needed 3 or 4 bags so it wasn’t too bad. A few bucks more per bag than the diamond crystals splash ready & the mortons prof.
I have some of each of those left over from last year & will be doing the white bucket test with them soon!
Do you have the sequestrant on hand? If the stains are gone- add it now.
I’ve added 4 bottles. I even bought the test kit to test the amount of the purple stuff in your pool. I’m working on balancing my chemicals now. It only took 3 lbs to lift the stains. So, maybe I can keep the stains away.
