Hi, guys. My pool has been using so much chlorine lately. I am putting in a full bottle of 10% bleach every day, which is costing us $80 a month. It has been super hot ( upper 90’s) and we’ve had daily swimming in the pool, but still. My CYA is 50. Should I raise it? Would this help? My numbers are:
Cya 50
Ph 7.5
TA 60
Calcium 280

A full jug of 10% is adding 6.5 FC per day. You're right--- that is waaaaay too much.

I think your next step is to run the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. You'll probably fail it.
50 CYA is plenty, and as high as you want to be for what will probably come after the OCLT.

Jack your FC up to 10 or 12 after dinner. Test the FC after the sun no longer hits the pool and after the last swimmer is out. Leave the pump on. Set your alarm and get up tomorrow before the sun hits the pool and test FC again. If you lost more than 1 FC, you've got algae starting somewhere.

I try to keep it at at least 3. Lately, it’s been down to two to four each evening. I add a bottle of 10%, and by the next evening, it’s down to 2-4 again, so it has eaten the whole bottle up. We have had kids swimming lately. They get out to use the bathroom, but you never know.
