Greetings all. We are starting a build and taking bids for an electrician. What are the basic tenants of a scope of work for the electrician? What items should I make sure are included in the Scope?

Pentair IntelliCenter 5PIC40 Kit
Pentiar Intelliflo Variable Speed Pump
Pentair 300 Watt 12v Transformer
Pentair MicroBrite - 3 LED Color Light 100/50'

I am betting the electrician will tell you what he is willing to do beyond the basic intellicenter. Most will not be familiar with the control wiring and may not be willing to get into it.
Do you have a pool builder? They should have some recommendation.

D,

There is a large difference between an Electrician, and an Electrician that installs pool equipment.

The electrician that did my pool, installed the EasyTouch on the wall, ran the power from my house panel to the EasyTouch, wired the IntelliFlo VS to the EasyTouch, wired the SWCG.. (Not sure who installed the cell) He also installed the pool light, and pad light, which he provided. He also installed the right GFCI for the IntelliFlo, but I'm pretty sure the pool builder supplied that.

Heads up... make sure you buy IntelliFlo pump unions and have them on hand for the plumbers who will install the pump...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks - - What do you think about unions on other parts of the setup? I do not have a SPA.

D,

I am not talking about the huge home depot schedule 40 looking unions.. I am talking about this type of IntelliFlo unions.. https://www.amazon.com/PACK-Hi-Temp-Union-Whisperflo-Intelliflo/dp/B00AKMV4K8

I use this link because of the pic.. Notice the O-ring on the threaded end of the union. This O-Ring prevents the often seen leak at the threaded connection. My guess is 25% of the pics we see show where the pool owner has some kind of caulk around the output threaded connection to help stop the leak..

You could use these union for other things, if you wanted. They also make the job of installing the pump much easier.

A lot of things already come with units, like SWCG's, filters etc.. Unfortunately, they do not come with the IntelliFlo.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Here is some to get you started:

1. Provide license and insurance information. Call and verify their license and insurance. Also, they should be bonded as well. Bonded may be a requirement in your jurisdiction.
2. They should provide all permits and schedule inspections.
3. All work to be in accordance with 2017 NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC). Or whatever code your jurisdiction is using.
4. They need to provide all power wiring for a complete installation. List all of your equipment.
5. All wiring to be stranded copper.
6. All wiring to be run in min. SCH 40 PVC conduit. Flexible conduit kept to a maximum of 3 feet for final connection to pumps, heaters, etc. Ensure that runs are protected from sun by expansion joints or flexible conduit.
7. Provide a complete bonding system for pool. All areas and equipment to be bonded in accordance with NEC, local code, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Don’t forget the bonding of the rebar, deck, and screen if applicable.
8. Ensure they provide all new materials.
9. Test power to all equipment prior to startup.
10. Determine the type of panel you are using and it’s amp rating and define that size for the circuit to the panel.

They may or may not have experience with the type of controls. They may just provide power to the panel and the pool startup company will program panel.
