Easytouch Questions

Dan,

I 'assume' all the relays have been bypassed with a jumper from the line side to load side, just so your equipment can be run manually???

Jim R.

Your exactly right. I wanted to be able to run the waterfall while I tract down a Transformer and "watt" ever else I need????? I didn't want green water to attend with. Thanks.....Dan

Dan emailed me a couple of photos of his setup, so here they are...

Dan, are the wires I circled in yellow the ones that bubbled, or were you talking about some damage on the actual board itself?

In the next photo you'll notice that the yellow transformer wire is now capped, it was at one point connected to a breaker.

Tom- Your circle is spot on, not a very good photo. Thanks Tom!!! Put a few photo's of the power plant and waterfall up.

Those jumpers on the relays basically defeat the 1,500 purchase price of the ET! Is there a reason to that?

Flying Two- Your exactly right. But after the Transformer went up in smoke do to miss wiring, maybe the motherboard also, I want to be able to run my waterfall until I received a new transformer, etc. My waterfall relies on 3 IntelliFlo VS (3hp)pumps....it is not a wading pool.LOL Thanks for reply though. Dan PS- I am hoping my friend in Chico will post a few photo's so all of you can see the reason for the Automation!

3 VS pumps?? I really need to see a picture of your pool ! Great thinking on keeping it running manually!

Flying Tivo- I would love to send photo's but I have yet to figure out how to do that. My "Waterfall" consists of 3 ponds, all of which you could swim in. The lower one is 12'X15' 5' deep the other two are 7'X7' and three feet deep. All done like a swimming pool would be constructed. Total Waterfall length is 60' long. My upper backyard is 14' higher than back deck...perfect elevation for a Natural Waterfall you would see in the mountains. Brought in 40 ton's of Sierra Boulder and all ponds were done in Pebble Tec, Tahoe Blue. I replaced the Pentair Whisper Flows with VS IntelliFlo to save on electric bills. I can know run the pumps @ 1400rpm's versus 3450??? For a nice tranquil flow. We also added fiber- optics for lighting in the ponds. This was all done in 2005 so things have changed considerably. I would like to send photo's, maybe you can private text me with email address. Thanks....Dan PS- Thankful for all that has responded.

Hey thanks Dan, same goes to you!

I just saw the comment a page back saying that the yellow circled wires were indeed the ones that got hot and bubbled. That is troubling because those are the 10vac and 18vac lines... they'd have to have had a boat load of current run through them to bubble that insulation.

I know you ordered a new transformer... if you're going to re-use the original EasyTouch board, BEFORE you connect the new transformer to the board you need to run a few tests... I do not mean to be alarmist but it is possible that the original transformer fiasco killed/shorted the bridge rectifiers at the 10vac and 18vac inputs (which would explain the bubbled insulation) and if they are shorted you DO NOT want to connect your brand new transformer to the board.

Have you got a multimeter? To check if the rectifiers are shorted you can use a continuity check/diode check/ohmmeter - let me know what you've got and I can give you steps, or you can google "test rectifier". If the rectifiers are not shorted, then you can connect a 12 volt dc source as I showed in the earlier photo. It's a quick test, you apply power for maybe 5 seconds tops... you just want to see if the thing boots up. If you don't have a handy 12vdc source you can snap two 9v batteries together or use a 12/14 volt cordless tool battery in a pinch.
