Draining and refilling

I am reaching out to the pros again as this is my first time draining my pool.
My pool valve has no Main Drain position. It only shows skimmer and cleaner. However there are 2 drains on the deep end in the pool. I assume that the skimmer and the 2 drains are connected? I read that that is pretty common??
So in order to drain my pool I hook up the blue hose to the sewer clean out and filter (bottom drain), open the the drain and start the pump? I assume I stop the pump shortly before it runs dry?

When I refill the pool, is there anything I need to consider in terms of extra chemicals? Or do I just check and adjust the water balance.

I appreciate the help!

If the skimmer and main drains are connected, you likely have a diverter valve in the skimmer. They are not airtight and as soon as water leaves the skimmer, you'll start sucking air which will cause your pump to cavitate. You need a submersible pump. You can rent or buy. Buying one may be a good investment if you deal with rising CH levels. Don't use the pool pump to perform a full drain.

When you refill, you'll need to get some chlorine in the pool and bring CYA up to TFP recommended level for your pool and means of chlorination.

Thank you for the reply
Any recommendation for an affordable submersible pump?
