Because I fight a battle between both high pH and low alkalinity, I use pool close as an opportunity to " reset the dial". Our fill water is high pH, rainwater is lower. So when I lower the water level for close, I bring it lower than below the skimmers. I want to get high pH water out and know that rainwater and snow will have water levels very high at opening. I usually drain maybe 5 inches below the skimmer.
I got called away while doing it today and it got lower than intended- probably a foot below the the skimmers (i.e. just below the returns). In theory that level is fine with me because the opportunity for more rain water to refill it over time, but my concern - is there a risk that there isn't enough water in the pool to keep the pool walls in place and not imploding from pressure from the water table of our yard outside of the pool? (i.e. should I add some water back before the close?)
Edited to add: I live in the Northeast where we get plenty of rain in the fall and winter (snow in winter too) so by the pool opening the water level is always back up to the tippy top of the pool
Hope this question makes sense. Thanks!
